American Idol is no stranger to controversy. It would seem the more popular the show gets, the more the conspiracy theories and gossip goes around. Well for once, the news is not about the feuding judges. It is about a website dedicated to derailing the voting system that lets America decide who gets to stay and who gets to go.

StarMuscle reports:

Howard Stern is doing an official endorsement for this website: votefortheworst.com.

This website is trying to sway the vote for good American Idol contestants to the WORST ONE, Sanjaya Malakar.

Here’s a quote from the popular website:

“Go Sanjaya! And thanks to everyone who voted for him! If we can move him ONE more week into the top 10, he’ll go on tour and have to sing a Gwen Stefani song. So we HAVE to vote as much as possible next week. Come on, everyone, this could be the best show ever. Does anyone miss Brandon? Probably not. But now it’s obvious that VFTW saved Sanjaya, because he was in the bottom 2 and didn’t leave. Had we not voted for him, he would have been gone. Great work, everyone! “

Howard Stern from the Howard Stern Show on Sirius satellite radio, is trying to mess with the public and prove once again he is THE KING OF ALL MEDIA. There’s a retarded kid that calls in all the time, Eric The Midget (who is the biggest Idol fan), who is extremely angry at this plan. He is worried about keeping the American Idol reputation and integrity intact. This is only adding gasoline to a fire, when it comes to motivating Howard Stern.

I gotta say, this Sanjaya kid is just average at best, but easily the worst of the top 10.

There have been artists on the show I didn’t like, or perhaps didn’t think their style was something I would listen to, but for the most part the top 10 performers are solid talents that deserve to face off against one another. But it would seem this renegade website is generating enough voters who want to upset the balance of the show.

Many viewers theorize that because of Sanjaya’s ethnic background that East Indians are tipping the votes, or perhaps teenage girls gushing over his boyish charm.

Now it looks like www.votefortheworst.com has been shut down. Perhaps it has exceeded its bandwidth limitations or something more serious. The site mostly consisted of its mission statement and a Mailbag Update that insults the drooling fanbase that would write angry letters at the webmaster complete with poor spelling. One angry Idol fan writes “I WILL MAKE SHER THAT THERE IS A LAWSUIT.” but perhaps they should learn to spell before attempting to launch a lawsuit. Especially since there is nothing this person can do to make sure this happens.

But maybe the damage has been done. Do you really think this will affect the outcome of Idol?
