<description>Dude has sold his soul to the devil. That's the only plausible explanation of why he's still on the show.

---------

If you are acknowledging that it is a "popularity contest" then you are essentially disproving your other argument, that the show is fixed. What you are saying is that, regardless of 'perceived talent' of all of the contestants, the person with the most votes (AKA "Most Popular") will win the show. And, since the show readily admits that "YOU, AMERICA pick the winner!" then I would say that it seems to me that it is living true to that statement.

And of course, as always when dealing with 'talent' and other subjective situations, everyone's taste vary, so you will NEVER have a completely agreed upon outcome.

No one can ever say "Singer X is the best, most talented singer ever." or "This movie is the BEST film ever." All that would be is there opinion. Nothing more.

<description>the post wrote "...or perhaps teenage girls gushing over his boyish charm..."

Um, not that there is anything wrong with this, but... it seems that perhaps the dear Sanjaya would prefer teenage BOYS to be gushing over him.

<description>You cannot prove it is fixed any more than I can prove it is not.

Ironic that you claim conspiracy over a "fixed show" when you are sucking up the propaganda of an unproved theory.

<description>I also applaud Stern. I know the producers of the show can override the American vote - so in the meantime go ahead and fuck with them. Howard is making a valid point. It isn't America that is voting, but the producers of the show are. Let them and the rest of America see that the show is truly fixed and it is a popularity contest and not a talent contest.

<description>"Doesnt Stern have better things to do?"

You honestly have never listened to his show. No, he doesn't have anything better to do.

<description>Don, how does American Idol hurt society? It was pretty popular back when they called it Star Search and that show got far more actual STARS out of it than Idol ever has.

This is how the entertainment industry actually operates. They are not letting America decide the next big star. Only a small handful of really big stars has come out of this show.

They hand pick the talent they want to put up for the final pile, and you vote on the ones they picked to get that far. For the most part they all come into this with no career and LEAVE it without one too.

I dont see how this hurts society. That is a big stretch.
