This whole issue with Tigh being a Cylon poses a couple of interesting questions that I’m rather interested in seeing how on earth they explain. First of all, as much as I LOVED LOVED LOVED the season 3 finale of Battlestar Galactica, I’m not really thrilled with the fact that they just sort sprung these 4 being cylons on us.
Yes, there have been hints about the Chief being a Cylon ever since season 1 (and they really hit us with it by the way he found the temple earlier this season), but come on… all the rest of them were just BAM out of the blue.
They all raise questions… but Tigh in particular. Here are some of my questions and thoughts about him:
1) PROBLEM - The Cylons technology for making skin jobs (human looking Cylons) is supposedly new. Tigh fought in the original Cylon wars before the Cylons had such technology.
2) POSSIBLE SOLUTION - Tigh is not the ORIGINAL Tigh. Perhaps the real Tigh was replaced by a Cylong a few years ago.
3) POSSIBLE SOLUTION - We already know that the other 5 are somehow fundamentally different from the other Cylon skin jobs. Hints have even been given that they perhaps have an agenda of their own. Is it also possible that these 5 pre-exist the other skin jobs by decades? Perhaps they existed in secret during the original Cylon wars?
4) PROBLEMS WITH MY SOLUTIONS - In the case of a cylon replacing the original Tigh at some point… that would mean the Cylon would have already had to look exactly like him (Nothing in the shows up to this point has ever suggested that the Cylons are shape shifters). With the idea of the 5 pre-existing all the way back to the original Cylon wars… that would mean Tigh would have to age like a normal human. From what we understand… Cylons don’t do that.
I guess the real point of this post is to express that even though I have a couple of working theories about how on earth Tigh could be a Cylons… I really don’t know. So open up and share any thoughts or theories you have about it.

Im still hoping that Tigh et al are not the real final 5 but merely pawns in a cylon game. Maybe its naive of me to believe that but it really is a step too far for all 4 of them to be cylons.
Unless a wizard did it.
This is exactly what I said in the previous post:
>I don’t even see how that works with Tigh as he’s old enough to have taken place in the first Cylon war, before they even developed the human looking models. Was there a Tigh and has he been replaced? Is this the same with the others? Are they all based on actual people or do they exist purely as Cylons from the start. If the latter is true then do the Cylon sleeper agents age?<
Of all the crew you need to have some believeability when it comes to who would be a Cylon.
Then again the whole Baltar / 6 connection still does my head in, expecially now we’ve learnt it goes both ways.
Boxy should be a Cylon - no-one suspects the kids. He turned up having ‘lost’ his parents to be looked after by Boomer who could have had some kind of cybernetic mothering instinct. Seriously - WHERE THE HELL DID HE GO? He was in the mini-series then just as we’d forgotten about him he turns up doing an pre flight briefing with Starbuck. Do we just assume he’s dead?
I think he’s the secret Imperius Leader.
Sorry to disappoint but Ron Moore said in an interview with Pittsburgh’s Post-Gazette that THEY ARE Cylons, I watched the finale an other time and they clearly used exposition to make the point clear. Tyrol says: “We’re cylons, we’ve been all along”. As far as explaining why and how come he’s one they’ll clear that up eventually but there is no reason to believe the human form Cylons are new.
They were at war with humans but perhaps even then some Cylons did not think humans should be destroyed but rather embrace living amongst them.
Besides we know so little about those characters past, there is no way we could of predicted Boomer was a Cylon, she seemed to have a good back story.
He also said Starbuck was dead and Katee was gone from the show so its not like hes lied before.
That should read “so its not like hes not lied before”
I couldnt believe that ending, it blew me away
Well, it is certainly a mind bender that Tigh would be a cylon. However we know that even the current baddy skin jobs know about five other models but don’t talk about them (and apparently don’t even know much about them). I got the impression that they weren’t a part of Cylon society for a very long time.
No one knows anything about Tigh from before Adama met him on the civilian freighter. Given that this has to be before Apollo was born so perhaps for 25 years Tigh could have been living among the Colonials. As for cylons not getting old, we don’t know if they do or don’t. After all, if you had the opportunity to look young by ressurecting yourself every couple years, wouldn’t you?
BTW, we knew during the original wars with the Cylons that the Colonials eschewed certain technologies. It would have been easy for a Tigh model to be planted with fake IDs, fake memories, and start living life.
I think the “final five” will be a faction that *wants* to get along with the Colonials, and they will become allies. What will be interesting is how the four we know about adapt to their knowledge.
Wordy wordy. Shutting up now.
Another possible solution - there has been a mind transference only.
The bodies of these 4 Cylons are human. Their personalities have recorded and a sublimated Cylon consciousness has been added underneath the original human ones.
I’ve only watched the finale once, and haven’t had a chance to watch it again, because I have a question about the 4 in the room.
How did they come to the conclusion so quickly that they are Cylons?
Sure, they’ve been hearing the music, and they all end up in the same room, but I find their immediate conclusion that they’re Cylons a little unconvincing.
I can see all 4 walking into a room and having some comments / questions such as:
-”What the hell is going on?”
-”We must be connected to each other in some way, but what?”
not,
-”Oh my God, we’re Cylons!”
Certainly, in the course of the next season, there is definately the possibility that they figure out they actually are Cylons, but to come to that conclusion so quickly seems ridiculous.
So I must ask, did I miss something?
I’m of the opinion that the Final Five have different motives than the other seven human-form Cylons. Besides, Three had the vision about who the final five were in the Temple of the Five which makes you wonder if they not only have a connection to the Cylons but one to the Thirteenth Tribe as well?
Could the creation of the Cylons and their rebellion have been on purpose in order to reunite the human tribes and the Final Five were created to aide in that purpose?
I think the biggest giveaway about Tigh being a Cylon is the eyepatch.
Never trust ANYONE with an eyepatch…
OK so here’s the thing.
As a buddy and I were stuck at the office this weekend, we tuned in to watch Battlestar Galactica. To our surprise it was the original. THis was the episode that starred Patrick MacNee in which he had strange and mysterious powers.
Baltar suspected something about Count Iblis and while it does take a while for him to figure out, he realises that he is the voice of the Imperious Leader. Interesting enough he is also the opening narrator voice. Iblis tells Baltar that cylons were not always the machines that they had come to know. He tells Baltar that he and those like him predate the Cylons by 1000 years.
Just food for thought considering the latest reveal on Season 3
I am thinking along the lines of Lisa and NOA…
I have two possible theories (OK 3)…
1.) The 4 ARE cylons, but they are different because they cannot “upload” like the others. The newer cylons are like CD-RWs and the “original” five are just plain CD-Rs. Therefore they could have been “made” many many years ago, and just kept aging, etc. Isnt it almost impossible to tell (without major tests) the differences between cylons & humans? They bleed, have organs, can reproduce, etc.
2.) The 4 ARE NOT cylons, but some kind of direct decendants of the original colony of EARTH. They didnt start hearing the “music” in their heads until they got closer to that nebula or whatever it was. And the whole reason they were trying to get to the nebula was because it would “point the way” to Earth. So perhaps these unknown “things” happening to them are simply going to allow them to find earth.
3.) Some sort of Combo of the above. I think Starbuck is (was) maybe the REAL first Cylon/Human hybrid baby. That would maybe explain her visions AND they could indeed possible ressurect her.
I just dont buy that these 4 are indeed 4 of the final 5 cylons. I know you have to suspend your disbelief sometimes, but what were the odds when the cylons were making their plans to “destroy all humas” that they could accurately predict that Tigh, Anders, Tyrol, and the president’s aide would be left alive, let alone on the same ship? I mean, if the aide (forgot her name) has been with Roslyn for a long time, then originally she was only the aide to the secratary of Education. Granted, she could have become an aide AFTER the attack and weaseled her way into the aide position.
Oye. All this cylon talk is making me dizzy. Although i have always liked the working in of the number 12. Very biblical and time related. (12 Tribes of Isreal, 12 Apostles of Jesus, 12 Zodiac symbols, 12 hours (x2) in a day, 12 months in a year, 12 Gods in the Greek Pantheon, Twelves Cylon models, Twelve Colonies, etc.)
I just CAN’T BELIEVE that we have to wait until 2008 for new Battlestar!!! We could all reproduce by then!
I think it very funny taht everyone has accepted that the human cylons are actually evovled robots. For all we know they might even be as old as humans
TEDWARD: How did they come to the conclusion so quickly that they are Cylons?
I think it was the Chief that jumped to the conclusion because he’s always felt that he was a Cylon. But what other conclusions could they have drawn - why would they be only ones hearing the music? are the four of them crazy and having the same symptoms?
The others are still a skeptical and the rush was probably because there wasn’t enough time to go into a deep, drawn out discussion of the whys and wherefores - the ship was at condition one and they needed to get to their posts pronto.
JIM: Tory became Roslin’s aide in season 2 after Billy died. There was something mentioned that she was part of some mayoral campaign on Caprica.
And as for the whole “Are-they-or-aren’t-they-cylons” - my brain hurts when trying to come up with a good reason because all my scenarios were based on the criteria used for determining the Cylon Seven from the points you mentioned in your post.
I think we’d have to put that aside because they are different (we hope) from the other seven. I going to go with the whole “This has happened before and will happen again” theme which makes me think that the final five pre-date not just the seven models but also the Cylon war (20-40 odd years ago).
I’d go as far as to say that they’re cylon descendants from the first exodus (the one mentioned in the ancient texts). They have evolved so that they almost are human (moreso than the seven skin job models). (Just reread the comments and Bishop and I are of the same mind on this one - glad to know I’m not alone)
From the mini-series and in season 1 the whole idea of the Cylons “having a plan” was about the destruction of the human race either through annihilation or breeding (with the “croutons”).
But the schism between the seven skin jobs and the final five suggests that there is something more to the plan. Both Six and Roslin have mentioned that the new generation represent “the shape of things to come” and with evolution the difference between cylon and human will not be as clear cut as it is now.
And this is what the final five are - not wholly human, not wholly cylon - another step in the evolutionary ladder.
Hey I could be talking out of my ass but the alternative that they’re not really Cylons and Ron D. Moore is just having one huge mind frak over us is just too much for my poor brain to handle.
1) Thank you Vix for mentioning the tag line of the whole show. “All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again” is NOT gone. It still plays a major role.
2) The final five cylons are fundamentally different, and somehow linked with the Spiritual and with earth (though this isn’t crazy since earth and the Spiritual are also linked together).
3) The four in question heard a very specific song (a rendition of All Along the Watchtower) with some interesting meanings. But the point is that this is probably the first recognizeable song we’ve heard in the series (the only other one is Passacaglia, which focused on Starbuck, who has been to earth).
4) Six was in the opera house on Kobol with Athena, Hera and Roslin. Was Baltar present as well? And were the final five? I haven’t watched closely, but do they hear the music when the others are going after the hybrid?
ok here is the interesting point. We are ALL assuming the baby in the “dreams” is Hera.
If memory serves, is there not ANOTHER hybrid baby now?
Anyone?
I remember watching an episode where Chief reminds Adama that he was born on Galactica. What the hell happened to that? And how could he be a cylon if he was born on the frakking ship?
I was hugely disappointed in the season finale. I just hope they pull their act together for the opener.
Yeah.. they’ve lied before and they’ll do it again.
Where’s the Doctor Who reviews???
I’d just like to say, on behalf of everyone who didn’t see the last episode as it transmitted in the US, thanks a fucking bunch for the spoilers.
Come on, really in the motherfucking headline?
Would it be at all possible for some consideration for the people who are a couple of weeks behind. It’s not like this episode even aired that long ago but there in the bloody is one of the key developments of this series.
Please, in future can spoilers be in the post body, with a warning?
Hey Pheonix,
I am Sorry, but no.
This site will talk about episodes after they air here in North America. I’m affraid The TV show Blog won’t be for you if that doesn’t work for you. Many other great TV websites out there though that I’m sure will do that for ya.
Cheers!
Matt: In the shared dream between Athena, Roslin, Six and Hera, we see Six running to get Hera and there’s a dark figure in the background (not sure if that was Baltar though).
In Six’s later dream it was her and Baltar with Hera and looking up at the final five. I don’t think this one was a shared dream.
Bishop: The other hybrid would be Tyrol’s son, Nicky but the kid in the dreams sure looked like Hera to me.
Okay John, at least you’ve got the bollocks to tell me that’s how it’s going to be. I respect that.
I won’t visit until I’m up-to-date on shows in that case.
hey john…no ones saying not to talk about the shows immediately but is it really too much to ask to maybe use some sort of warning or to perhaps not put potential spoilers right in the headlines??
lets face it you have a wide readership overseas where some people will be behind…do you want to risk losing them or forcing them to purposely avoid reading your site because of something as simple as a spoiler warning or maybe just writing headlines withgout giving everything away????
doesn’t effect me obviously and of course it is totally up to you its your site but i think there must be a way you can avoid putting gigantic potential spoilers in the actual headlines……
Hey Alfie
As i already said to Phoenix above:
“I am Sorry, but no.

This site will talk about stuff after it airs here. That might mean it may not be for everyone, and that’s ok. many other fantastic tv sites out there to better suit tastes.
Cheers man!
fair enough…i see them when they air so it doesnt effect me……
was glad battlestar went out with a great finale as the latter half of this last season was getting a bit sketchy…….
sorry to change subject but when is someone going to put up a 24 post?? this is seriously the fucking worst season ever..driving me crazy…… its my favorite show and this year it has been soooo disappointing….especially since the first four episodes were outstanding…
.it needs to be revitalised….they need to do a show outside of L.A.
maybe even overseas … something as this year it is stale and boring as fuck…i fucking wish it was jack versus zombies…..
I think I’m going to have to stay away from here my own self. Some (read:most) of my TV is watched immediately, but there are some shows I just hoard until I have 5 or 6 to watch at once (Smallville) and I can’t risk the spoilers either, that Smallville one caught me off guard.

I agree with the 24 comment. I only watch a couple TV shows and would schedule my life around 24 and then buy the frakkin (just to keep it BSG related) DVD’s. This season it’s all over the place… I’ve begun to call it 24:Kitchen Sink. I’ll still watch the remainder of this year but I’m very let down by it.
Oh, the BSG final blew me away… just like last years did with the Cylons coming to new caprica. Keep it coming!
I’m pretty sure none of the 4 ‘revealed’ are actually cylons- I think they’re just being played- Plus, them 4 plus Starbuck- that means all of the final 5 are revealed? No way- They leave that kind of stuff until the end.
