As we near the end of one standard season of our favourite shows, the inevitable cancellation of some shows looms over their future.
For the record, they’re Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, (again? We just went through this last year), Supernatural, which are all categorized as “Looking Uncertain,” and Veronica Mars, which, unnervingly, is tagged as “Looking Doomed.” Noooo! We’re a little freaked out hearing that some of our faves might not make it back next year, so we wanted to know: which of these four do you want saved? All four have passionate, rabid fanbases, but which one is the most worthy of another season?
So let me share my thoughts on each since I do watch them all.
Gilmore Girls has become boring. Its jumped the shark exponentially. Part of the charm was the uncertain relationship of Lorelai and Luke, and they got them together (romantic resolution). Everyone is happy. Then Rory got too old and wasnt the cute brainy kid anymore, so Luke finds out he has a daughter and shes a clone of little Rory - cute brainy kid (new kid syndrome). Lorelai and Luke are no longer together (the kind of conflict that kept the show interesting) and Lorelai is married to Chris they break them up and steer her back to Luke (romantic resolution - again). So they decide its over, and since they want to give the fans what they want so they get her and Luke together again. The show is too unstable, and not in an interesting way. It’s done.
One Tree Hill is also getting too drawn out. They need a shake up. The one constant has been Dan Scott. Everyone hates him, everyone has something to fear from him, no one is happy so long as he is around. The answer? Remove Dan. But wait, then everyone will be happy and there will be no story. Roll credits. The CWBlog article suggests they are considering tying up the current story arc and catching up to these guys 4 years down the road when they are all the adults and done college and into their carreers. I think this is the only salvation for this show. If they don’t do this, then they need to end it now.
Supernatural is a show that I loved in the beginning and then kinda slipped away from it. But recently I have been getting back into it. There is a bigger story instead of just one mystery monster a week. I like the show ever since they found their dad and openned up the supernatural can of worms. Plus, they have had two Battlestar Galactica star guest appearances. That likely means they are trying to generate some cross marketting interest, but it’s still cool. I say this show stays.
Veronica Mars is still my favourite of the bunch. I don’t see any reason for them to change the formula, but perhaps get Veronica away from the romantic chaos and back to the Nancy Drew thing. I love the dynamic between her and her father. The current running plots seem to have fished themselves out, and they could finish out the season safely from where they stand. But to bring it back we need to start something new to leave a cliffhanger and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they will. Much like One Tree Hill, the rumour seems to be that Veronica Mars will skip ahead to her as an agent in the FBI. I am all for the skipping ahead thing, but I prefer the current storyline. This is one show that attending college doesnt harm. I say it stays.
The only other show that is already seems done for is Seventh Heaven. This show needed to end a long time ago. I dont know why its still in their lineup. Especially after they had a series finale last year only to bring it back with the WB and UPN merger that brought us the CW.

I’ve only seen seasons 4-7 of Gilmore Girls but I’ve probably enjoyed 7 the most.

NO! They cannot cancel Supernatural! I need them to reveal all about the demon’s plan for Sam and his fellow Superbabies. I think it’s fresh compared to the usual teen soap sop. There are monsters every week! What more can viewers ask for?

I totally agree with your rundown of the shows. Veronica Mars is the only one worth bringing back in my opinion and I wouldn’t mind if they skip ahead to her being in the FBI as long as her Dad, Logan, and maybe Dick are back. But I agree, her being in college is not what’s hurting the show and I think that it would do just fine if it continues with Veronica in college.

I can’t believe that Supernatural is “Looking Uncertain”. Please don’t tell me they’re bringing 7th Heaven for the umpteenth million season.

If Gikmore ends this year it is not because CW cancelled it, but because the actresses quit, and i say good riddance. Also 7Th Heaven is cancelled already

One Tree Hill is one of my favorites. Keeps getting better. Gilmore Girls would only get cancelled if the actresses dont renew there contracts. The show is successful. So we’ll see. I’m just glad Smallville will not likely get cancelled.

It’ll be the worst thing the CW has ever done if they cancel Supernatural. It’s ratings have been steady all season, which is more than you can say for some of the station’s other shows.

CW cannot cancel One Tree Hill. It is the best teen soap left. The OC was cancelled, so they cannot do away with OTH.
