Smallville’s creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar as well as star Michael Rosenbaum are in attendance at the Jules Verne Festival in Paris France. Smallville is being spotlighted as a feature series.
At the Festival, the show creators have been interviewed and some interesting revelations have come out. Among them:* Tom Welling is signed with the show through an 8th season. It sounds like the producers want the show to ultimately go for eight years, and end it there.
* Michael Rosenbaum’s contract ends with Season 7, so if there is an eighth year, it will be Clark vs. other villains. However, Michael COULD guest star.
* Aaron Ashmore will be back as Jimmy in Season 7. It sounds like he could have a 13-episode contract, though we don’t think it was confirmed.
* Justin Hartley (Green Arrow) won’t be back next year as he is attached to another project.
Rumours once surfaced that after the Smallville gang graduated highschool, Clark would run off to college and pursue his bespeckled career in journalism and Smallville title would eventually give way to Metropolis, detailing the earlier days of Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter.
Its already been stated as a solid rule, that we will not see the cape and tights on Welling, which he is happy about. And I for one am happy too. Tights work in comics, but honestly the suspension of disbelief crosses over to pure fantasy if we start putting villians in tights. I do appreciate the less costuming yet still superhero looking characters. No tights.
I am not a fan of the Jimmy Olsen character, and so far he is useless in the series. Maybe they will develope something for him.
But an 8th season without Lex Luthor? As suggested, this might open the doors to show NEW characters.
I am half hoping for a spinoff Justice League TV show with Hartley, and most would think this is unlikely considering the Movie they are attempting to hammer out, but it didnt stop them from making Smallville despite a new Superman movie.

I hope they introduce more DC heroes. They should bring in some females, since they introduced Green Arrow, introduce his future love interest and future Justice Leaguer Black Canary.
So that means Lana dies, why have Jimmy if Chloe dies
Well, Jimmy is actually part of the comic book world, while Chloe is not. But I still don’t think Chloe will die.
CJ said it first.
And actually because of the popularity of Chloe, DC has bought the rights to the character back off of the WB and plan to include her in the books.
So I hope they don’t kill her off.
Kill off Lana, she’s nothing but a drama norn in the show’s side.
It had better end after 8 years… don’t get me wrong i still enjoy the show buts its not what it was. Clark has now already met up with so many of the folks he isn’t supposed to meet until he is superman.
I am happy with lex leaving because for it to work that he and clark have distance when they cross paths in metropolis they need to have time apart so thats cool.
I hope the show ends with literally the last scene he dons the cape etc and moves to metropolis. Welling and the producers need to make this one sacrifice to end it properly thay have already had enough fun screwing around with the mythology they could at least give the poeple a proper ending worthy of a series finale.
“Clark has now already met up with so many of the folks he isn’t supposed to meet until he is superman.”
Like in the first episode when he becomes best friends with Lex Luthor?
This show doesn’t hold to the comics canon, and never claims to. If your only reason for wanting it to end at 8 seasons is because its already too different, you are WAY too late.
Even after 8 seasons, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spinoff series called Metropolis detailing his early days as Superman. Maybe a different kind that doesn’t wear spandex or his underwear on the outside.
