Heroes Season Finale

Tonight was the Heroes Season Finale.

Seems kind of anticlimatic when you know you don’t have to wait 4 months for a new episode. Heroes Origins will be airing throughout the summer. But for now we have the final episode of Heroes Season 1.

HeroSite.com gives us this preview of the episode.

With Isaac’s (Santiago Cabrera) horrible predictions all unfolding before them, the everyday people with extraordinary abilities face moments of pain and peril in Kirby Plaza with unflinching heroism, as “Heroes” first volume comes to a close — and the next surprisingly begins.

The rest will be kept beyond this link to protect the innocent from spoilers. You have been warned!

First off, I loved the subtle dance of all the characters finding their way to the same place at the same time. Those who know what is happening, and those that do not. Everyone is there for the showdown whether they want to or not.

Hiro - First off let me say I liked the Empire Strikes Back paralell of Hiro’s rise to his ability. He finds himself deep in training with Yoda, I mean his father, and his doubts and worries are all put aside as he rapidly improves. Then he comes out for a breather to find his friends are in trouble on Cloud city - ah… Ando at Issac’s Loft. He pleads with his father to allow him to go rescue Ando and is warned that his training is incomplete. Hiro goes despite this warning as his friends mean more to him than this.

And yes Hiro, you do look badass.

Niki/Jessica are done and only Jessica remains. Even though she gets a peek at her dark side they are now one in mission and purpose. And now Niki has the powers. She manages to save her son Michah and solidify their family. On the way out they trip over Bennet, Parkman and Parker. Mass exodus just in time to find the final showdown.

The rest of the episode is just a leadup to this moment. Not the viscious throwdown I was hoping for, but realisticly appropriate. More than ever we know now what 23 episodes of “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World” truely means.

Hiro steps up and does his job. Without Claire’s powers a simple thrust of the sword and Sylar is finished.

I liked more what was going on with all the characters. What brought them here, who knew what was going on, who meant to be there, who was just trying to escape. It all just happened. For a reason.

But the real battle isnt over. Peter is going nuclear and cannot stop himself. After the mental trip that Peter took to his own past and meeting up with the old man who gave him the “all you need is love” speech I thought we were in for a cheesy ending. It seems Peter loses control of the nuclear power when he gets upset.

Seeing his brother return to redeem himself looked like “love would save the day” And it does. When Nathan picks up his brother and flies his dayglo ass out of harms way.

The end of Nathan Petrelli? Possible. I doubt it, since Peter could have flown himself out. I would assume he didnt because he was focusing on not going boom. Nathan could easily have carried Peter up and let him go before flying himself to safety.

There will be reprocussions as this mysterious force more scary than the boogeyman is thwarted, and of course the bloodstreak leading to the sewer cover lets us know we haven’t seen the end of Sylar either.

And then we catch up with mere moments of Season 2 with Hiro stuck in the 1600s in fuedal Japan. This of course brought about my theory that Hiro IS Kinsei. But then it appears Kinsei is the lone warrior on the hill with the flag with that common symbol that has been teasing us since the begining.

Here is looking forward to Heroes Origins and another wonderful season of Heroes.

  1. xgdfalcon Said,

At first I thought I would be disappointed with a non-vicious throwdown ending, but it was good. The matter-of-factness of Hiro killing Sylar was great. How great was the confused look on Nikki/Jessica’s face with everything going on. And her going after Sylar. It’s going to be a long summer.

  2. JayOwen Said,

I thought the Heroes Origin stories where going to start after Season two.

  3. Nelson Said,

If either Petrelli is gone, it’s Nathan. Peter can heal himself and fly…Nathan can only fly. Plus, being that close to a radioactive person would have deadly consequences, ala Ted’s wife. So, I think Peter is OK, Nathan is dead.

I, too, was under the impression that Origins begins between season 2 and 3, not this summer.

  4. CJ Said,

Excellent finale, I actually really liked the showdown at the end.

Now for one of the many questions that will plague us until next season; Why exactly did Hiro end up in the 1600s?

  5. Rodney Said,

Origins will be out this summer.

CJ, Hiro was being thrown into a building by Sylar and rashly opted to teleport instead of becoming a bug on a window. Obviously this lack of preparation has left his jumps random.

Perhaps he was thinking that he was finally worthy of Kinsei’s legend, and then found himself in that era.

  6. Rafael Said,

I’m with the theory that Peter separated with his bro at the right time for him to explode. Then nuclear boy regenerates himself and they both fly down back to earth. Hmmm… That might work, but a little cheesy.

  7. Nelson Said,

@CJ: The title of Volume 2 is called Generations. I agree with Rodney that Hiro could be a descendant or a reincarnation of Kinsei. Thus the reason he is in the 1600’s where Kinsei was about to fight those other dudes. Between the “Generations” title for Volume 2 and the “Origins” summer-show, it looks like we’ll be getting some good history / back story of everyone’s evolution.

  8. Rodney Said,

Actually the Origins series is going to focus on a completely new pile of Heroes, one of which (by public opinion) will carry on into next season.

The current cast gets the summer off.

  9. Alex Said,

Origins will start in the fall, filling in spots where Heroes reruns would usually be during breaks.

  10. Alex Said,

Heroes Origins will run during the new season of Heroes starting in the fall. It could either run during the breaks of Heroes starting in the fall when reruns would usually play, or they will go after the season.
Origins will not be on this summer.

  11. Rich K Said,

Has anyone ever read “The Time Travelers Wife”? (incredible book by the way) Basically for the main character, he is tied to certain people, so typically when he time travels (he has no control over it) he ends up looping around them in some way. I think you can say the same for Hiro. When he is concentrating and using control over his powers, he can focus to where he wants to go. When it is random however, he ends up in familiar places and times, just without realizing and/or planning it.

As for the finale, I thought it was very good, but ultimately I felt unfulfilled. The best part was when they were all together, and battling Sylar, but it seemed over before it began. I also found it silly that Sylar can see Hiro coming from that far away, with all that yelling and leading up to, and then still get run through with the sword. He should have been able to stop that.

Another point for me, was Nathan flying in to save the day was way cheesy. I wish that could have been handled better. But then it may be more the actors fault than the writers. His delivery on his lines was pretty bad. Pasdar is usually better than that.

And lastly, when Nicki knocked out the mind-shifter girl, and everything changed to normal, shouldn’t the mind-shifter had turned into a heavier person? She seemed to hint to Mica in earlier eps that she didn’t look the way she appeared to everyone, and that she was much heavier, which is why she was eating all the time. Did anyone else catch that?

Sorry, these are nitpicky things, and overall I really enjoyed the episode and love the series. Just little things I felt could have been executed better.

  12. Rodney Said,

Rich, allow me to offer my take on your concerns. Not saying I am right but in these situations I had similar thoughts.

“I also found it silly that Sylar can see Hiro coming from that far away, with all that yelling and leading up to, and then still get run through with the sword.”

Perhaps deep down Sylar wanted to be stopped. This was hinted at in an earlier episode when he attempts to call for help with a sudden crisis of conscience.

“Nathan flying in to save the day was way cheesy.” I liked Nathan saving the day like this in that it wasnt the “love with change everything” and have Peter suddenly calm down and turn off the nuke when he sees his faith in his brother restored. It was redemption and a way out.

“Nicki knocked out the mind-shifter girl, and everything changed to normal, shouldn’t the mind-shifter had turned into a heavier person?” The shapeshifter is crafted in deception. Her image, her illusions, everything. Why not her words. I just thought the “im really fat” hint was another deception. No one knows for sure what she is up to and she wants it that way.

  13. Spazmo Said,

It seems from the close up of Sylar that he does ‘gain’ the power as such, but examining the brain he can modify how his own works on the fly. His eyes showed him switching through people he had killed in order to find a power that could assist him…

I ‘assume’ that Sylar was using another power at the time when Hiro turned up, and didnt have time to flick to something that could stop him…

…thats just an assumption, but it explains what he is doing with the brains…examining them to see what makes the abilities “tick” (he’s da man with clocks), filing that info away in his brain, then flicking through them. Would explain why we havent seen him using more than one power at one time…I guess…I dont know….TELL ME DAMN YOU, TIM KRING…

  14. TV-guy Said,

Just a thought: The events that we got a glimpse of when Hiro travelled to the future - where Sylar had taken Candace’s powers and made everyone believe he was Nathan - could still happen.
That could also mean that Peter is still alive - and that we have the answer to how he got his scar (despite healing-powers). He simply couldn’t heal all the way from the nuclear blast.
So, “Nathan” could return (but it could be Sylar) and then become president.

  15. GODFATHER Said,

Read the comments, but I was really unimpressed with the climax. The lead up was great, but the final battle was WAY too snoozefest. With that many abilities and people involved, the ending should’ve been so much more entertaining. Oh well.

I didn’t catch Sylar flipping through his list of conquests. I’ll have to re-watch that part, along with the part about with the HOT shape-shifter. I must’ve missed her talking about being larger.

I think both Peter and Nathan live. Nathan can’t regenerate (at least from what we know) and for Sylar to take on his power, he’d need his brain. There’s five years to go before we know Sylar is Nathan, or whatever. Peter can regenerate himself, but I doubt that’s how he gets his scar. Seems a little to straight for it to work as anything other than a cut.

I hope future showdowns show us more powerful scenes. With all of Peter’s and Sylar’s abilities, the ending of season one, really killed the motivation I had all season.

  16. TV-guy Said,

    Oh, and by the way?
The Japanese warrior-guy that Hiro encountered in the past? His father of course! I’ll bet you that’s Georg Takei behind that mask, it certainly looked like his eyes.

  17. Chris Said,

This was a weak season finale. So anti-climatic. No huge fight and a terribly predictable ending. Definitely could have been a lot better especially the fight between Sylar and Peter. It seem really simple and diluted for all the build-up it took to get to this point.

  18. alfie Said,

    a little anticlimatic??it was terrible

this finale to heroes was one of the most disappointing and lamest season finales ever put on screen?
    seriously…it was awful.

I had had my ups and downs with this show over the season…..for the most part i enjoyed it although I have often wondered why i am compelled to watch a show that can be so bad so often but i got hooked…..but after this finale fuck this show. awful awful awful.

….that future episode a few weeks back imagine if that had been the finale? that was a great episode but this…clare jumps out of the window and runs away…um nathan didn;t think to fly down and grab her back?

last week peter satrted to go nuclear and for soem reason controlled and then it happens again out of the blue purely because the writers needed it too and he can;t stop it …so many lazy lazy inconsistancies…..

everything led up to that?? the entire season led to the lamest hero vs villain “final confrontation” type fight ever..all the heroes fianlly converge in one setting and they just stand around there…wouldn’t it have been much better to seem them all team up and kick the crap out of sylar….wouldn’t it have been cooler to see them do something apart from stand around and gawk? plus characters did things purely because the writers needed them, too rather than it making any sense…… peter and sylar have these awesome powers and the battle that had beenn hintyed at and rteased to us all season comes to what …sylar gets hit with a fucking parking meter and peter punches him with fists……..it confirmed what I had suspected for a long time - they have no cluse how to do action….in the episdoe set 5 years in the future (which was amazing i admit) sylar and peter are about to fight and what happens? thjeir hands glow they walk towards each other and they close the door and we do not see the fight…ok i thought..they are saving the good stuff until the final (which they didn’t) and when hiro and peter arrive at the building and hiro says “should I transport us” peter says “no i haven’t had a fight in ages” i thought cool..we are going to see peter all badass and what happens???
no fight no nothing..just some stuntmen thrown out of frame..lame lame lame

anf the final confirmed it..they don’t know how to do action..and spare me any “its tv what do expect they don;t have huge budgets” crap that other people are giving..24 manages to have decent action every week……other shows manage it…buffy the vampire slayer had better action than this thing…..

it was awful and the show can get fucked as far as i am concerned…I will never watch it again. it was a joke.

oh and to add insult to injury they rip off the end of evil dead 2 since i guess they had ripped off enough from all over the place one more rip off source wouldn’t hurt anyone…..

and now they are going to let the viewers decide which characters are in the show like some lame hero idol bullshit. thats because it is written by some of the worst writers around and they are incredibly lazy…what next at the end of eachg episode we get a message “text A if you want peter to go left….text b if you want clare to jump into the boat”

HRG is the only good story arc in this show……

You want to see how to do a series finale go and watch the final of lost this season. i don’t even like the show…..they totally lost me (pun intended) mid season 2…i have watched on and off this season and started gettting a bit hooked over the last 6 or 7 episodes and then the final blew my mind…….I seriously think it might have been the greatest cliffhanger season finale I have ever seen. totally amazing.and it is not back until 2008. damn…….

  19. alfie Said,

i am the worst typist in the world.
    apologies
