Sopranos star Dania Ramirez has been chosen to be added to the cast of Heroes in the second season.
Ramirez will play Maya, a new hero whose powers are being kept under wraps.Maya is one of four to five new characters expected to be added to “Heroes” next season, but her character might be the only regular one. The other roles, most of which are said to have international flavor, include a sexy boyfriend for Claire (Hayden Panettiere), a 28-year-old black mother, a surrogate for Niki’s (Ali Larter) son and an Irish mobster.
Playing someone with super powers is not new to Dania, who played Calisto in XMen: The Last Stand.
Interestingly enough, I hadn’t noticed the predominately white cast of Heroes until this effort to bring a more “international flavour” to the show. Obviously Dr Suresh and Micah, and his father D.L. are of visible minorities. Oh wait, then there is the late Simone, who was dating that Hispanic Isaac. Oh, and Hiro and his father, and sidekick Ando. Did I miss anyone?
Yeah, this show REALLY needed a taste in culture. How dare they?
Clearly having characters native to Japan and India was not enough to appease their international flavour.
This is just silly. Pick characters because they are interesting, not because you want to make sure some cultures are not left out.
Sadly only Dania is the only one of the expanding class to have a predominate role. I would have liked to have seen a lot more new characters introduced into the tangled web some of the core characters lives.

They are missing an Inuit and Aboriginal hero….wait till season 3.
The haitian is in Heroes as well. There are more. An indian (native american) with powers would be really cool!!
Whatever happened to the Haitian anyways? We saw him in the future in episod 1.20 then nothing after that.
They are missing a vigilante type and a shapeshifter/Jekyll-Hyde type person.
But with Ramirez on board, it’s just one more reason to tune in.

I mean i personally think that Nikki is the perfect Jekyll-Hyde copy and they brought in the lightbender Candice is their shape shifter (although isnt she dead now?). I dont know if you were being sarcastic or if you didnt count them because it wasnt hard fits for the character.
I don’t know if Candace is dead or not, Nikki/Jessica (or whoever the hell is in control!) laid the smackdown on her in the finale. Whether that was enough to kill her, who knows. I’m betting she was probably just knocked out.
