This week’s chapter in the saga of the Picton Castle and its crew of pirates began with the usual uneasiness toward its Captain Joe Don. The divide on the ship is very clear, those being paid are happy and those not being paid are not. But with a new expedition brings the chance for a new captain.

The expedition for the Quarter Master’s treasure began with a boat race to shore pitting Joe Don and his officers Ben and Cheryl leading the Black crew against the Red Crew. Azmyth was again on the Red Crew who, along with Jay, led the crew to shore and an early lead. Alexis, of the Black Crew, interestingly appeared to be just taking her time and enjoying the scenery. Is this the first great bit of strategy and she is working on behalf of the Red Crew or is she just easily distracted and lazy? Meanwhile the Red Crew continued up the Bamboo trail and reached the Sabotage, which resulted in some bamboo collapsing on the Black Crew. The Red Crew then reached a raging river where the key to the treasure was hidden in a skull near a head-less skeleton. Jon Don and his crew made there way to the river as well but it was too late as Louie dove and found the key to the treasure. The Red Crew made quick work of finding the Quarter Master’s treasure behind a waterfall and won the expedition.

Joe Don’s reign of terror is over. Now that it is over, I feel a little bit for JD. Strategically, I think being the first captain was a tough place to be. You are immediately given the burden of half of the treasure. With the treasure you pretty much have to keep the half you are given or split the treasure evenly among those on your crew. You either screw them or screw yourself. JD took the former and everyone resents him for it. I would like to see him stick around at least another week and get a fair shake.

Back on the good-ship Picton Castle, Azmyth is unanimously named the new Captain. Azmyth in turn names Jupiter and Jay as officers. Personally I was surprised to see a captain elected so easily. They know that the new captain gets half of the treasure. But it looks like they made the correct decision so far because Captain Azmyth ended up splitting the $35,000 treasure evenly among the Red Crew.

Next up for the new captain was handing out the Black Spots for this week’s Pirate Court. Azmyth ended up going with Cheryl (because of Jay’s influence), Alexis for her overall laziness (and it looks like she wasn’t throwing the challenge after all), and Laurel (also for general laziness). After the Black Spots were announced Jay began to conspire against Cheryl. It was surprising to see Jay continue to support Joe Don but, as he said, as long as it remains lucrative for him, he will. Sean was on the fence and Jay offered him $1,000 to vote for Cheryl instead of Alexis which he accepted but later ignored. As usual we had lame speeches from everyone on trail but I guess Cheryl gave the best one. Like I said Sean ended up taking the money but lying to Jay and voting for Alexis. We’ll deal with that drama next week. But this week it ended up resulting in a tie between Alexis and former officer Cheryl. When there is a tie the captain must decide who gets cut adrift and Azmyth chose Alexis.

A new captain, the old captain remains on board, and more treasures to come. What do you think of Pirate Master? Does it stack up to other great reality games like Survivor?
