One week down and 4 less competitors tonight on Canadian Idol. Out of all the parts of the show I have to say this is the part I hate the most. OK I lie, I really really REALLY hate the bad singers who go in front of the judges, but the elimination period is a very tight second. It’s not because of the hurt looks or squashed dreams, but because of the useless pauses around commercial breaks that drive me NUTS!
Maybe it was because there are 22 contestants to go through and a bottom 8 with a final elimination of 4, but tonights elimination round was sweet and to the point. Little surprise when the bottom eight where called, Derek Hoffman, Clifton Murray, Andrew Austin and Justyn Wesley represented the four weakest votes for the boys, while the girls saw Maud Coussa-Handl, Christine Hanlon, Kamila Miller and Annika Odegard join the rank of lowest votes.
After it was all said and done, Derek Hoffman, Justyn Wesley, Maud COussa-Jandl and Christine Hanlon where sent packing, taking three Ontarians and one Quebecer out of the running for Idol status. I must admit that I was surprised only with Justyn being sent home, I felt his performance was much better than Clifton Murray’s, but one should not discount the hunk vote, And the boy has looks in spades.
Next week we have the show airing at a new time with 9 contestants in each group, 4 down, 8 more to go for a coveted spot in the top 10. Will talent shine and the contestants take the judges words of advice or will we see more dismal performances that have us clutching our ears and screaming.
Either way the eye candy still bounds to pleasure at least one of the senses.
