Finding Treasure in Pirate Master (Conclusion) & The Royal Pardon

In my last post about utilizing the treasure aspect of the show to make Pirate Master better, I focused on a couple of things CBS could do. Now I want to point out a couple of things that the players can do. In theory the player are not going to care how the show performs but these are also things that can help them win and become the Pirate Master.

First of all, let’s go back to the situation of Jay offering Sean $1,000 for his vote. Simply put, it’s a good strategy. I’m glad someone on the show realized that they can do this. Up until then, I was wondering how long it would take. Granted it really didn’t too long (the third episode) but now the flood gates should open on this type of strategizing.

The other major thing that these contestants better consider is how much money people have before they vote them off. Last week, Captain Louie and half of the crew were ready to vote JD off. JD has about as much money as the whole rest of the crew combined. If he’s voted off so is all his money and they can no long get their hands on it. It’s disturbing to me that no one has mentioned this as a reason to not vote for JD and that JD didn’t use it as his defense. If viewers realize that the contestants have no idea how to play the game, people are not going to watch.

Now to wrap this up, let’s go back to CBS. To their credit they did two things this week to put some focus on the money and treasure. The first is introducing the Royal Pardon. Basically, pirates bid on the Royal Pardon and then they can either save their ass with it or sell it to other pirates and make some money. JD won the bidding this week, which will help to spread some of the money around. Secondly, the treasure last week was only worth $5,000. This is the smallest treasure by far and if nothing else should help to mess with everybody and make them more excited when they do get a $30,000 or $40,000 treasure.

What would you do as captain, take half of the money (like JD) or spread it around evenly (like Azmyth and Louie)? Let us know and check out the new episode on Thursday!
