Idol mania continues in Canada as the top 14 all contend to be in the top 10. The boys started the journey of top 11 on a shaky leg, but soon found their ground as they rose the level of competition between them. While the girls took it to a whole new level, albeit a much lower level, The motto being “I only have to be better than you” the first two rounds where dismal with no tears for those who where told to go home.
Monday night the boys where back to impress, starting us off was Matt Rapley accompanied by the piano, as I found out later, it is much easier to get a piano off of the stage then on, his performance was so so but didn’t leave me wanting him in the top 10. Leading the pack of performances where unarguably Dwight D’Eon and Greg Neufeld. Both had amazing performances and with good looks to boot a sure bet for top 10. Liam Styles Chang and Brian Melo also had an amazing run, their vocals seemed almost feminine, with Liam gathering praise and Brian criticism from the judges, the lack of poor
performances for the boys could spell the end for Brian. Jaydee Bixby
struggled with his performance, left breathless he is a testament to how far looks will get you. Tyler Mullendore sang a rock grunge country performance of “Keep on Rocking me Baby” I believe there where actually words to the song, but I am unsure if that was me singing them in my head or if anything he said was understandable. It was no surprise tonight when Tyler was named bottom two, surprisingly though Liam ’s solid performance was not powerful enough to garner the votes to continue on.
The girls finally got their acts together and started us off right with Annika Odegard accompanied on the piano, her adorableness and talent truly shone but with two poor performances under her belt it was not enough to keep her around. Carley Rae Jepsen not only shone, but showed Canada how much of a flirt she truly is, she now has a dinner date with Ben Mulroney who made some suggestive comments during the show. Kamila Miller and Martha Joy stepped up their performances, perfect technical, their personalities rub me the wrong way, Maybe Marthas lack of genuiness or Kamila’s hokey facials, I think these two are top 10 fodder who won’t make it to top 5.
Tara Oram stepped up her two step tonight and showed the country that Canada is ready for the next Carrie Underwood, although not my pick for top 2, I think she will go far. Khalila G showed a markable improvement tonight but it was Montana Martin Iles, the spunky girl who wowed us the first night that was sent packing, her performance showed us that energy and charisma do not make up for a poor singing voice and heavy french accent, and that is what is sending her ‘ome
Top ten performances start on Tuesday night with the “Number One” theme and a performance by Rhianna. Although not as giddy as the idols it is sure to be a good time. With keys in hand to their new Toronto Digs I wish them all the best.
