Are we all in agreement here that the expeditions, or challenges, or whatever they want to call them, on Pirate Master are absolutely horrible? They are infantile, ill-conceived, shells of a discarded, failed, peed on, Survivor challenge. They suck and make the show worse.

Where to begin? Every single week one of the crews finds a short cut through the expedition. This week a crew went the wrong way at a fork in the river and they just cut through the jungle to get back on track. This shouldn’t happen. The expeditions should be set up in a way that would force the crew to go back the way they came until they get back on track. A few weeks ago, a crew didn’t even take the time to decipher a clue because they could just tell where the next clue would be by the landscape. Lastly, almost every week the crew that’s behind in the challenge can just follow the other crew without having to figure out which way to go. All of these short cuts make the challenges less difficult and less interesting.

The challenges are not challenging enough and every week they’re almost exactly the same. Row to shore, follow a path to a clue, follow the clue to another clue, follow clue to treasure. They are basically the same every week and that is boring. And the crews are doing in the same thing so they get used to it. No wonder the same crew has been winning week after week.

Back in the day (which was a Wednesday) I was looking forward to see where they would go with the sabotages in the challenge. But they, of course, went no where and even gave up on them for a few weeks. This week’s “sabotage” didn’t even look like it fazed the other crew. Either let the crews sabotage and really mess with each other or keep them the hell away from each other.

Man, these things have just gotten embarrassing for me to watch. Having the Ghost Crew compete this week was a great idea.

But as luck would have it, that just back-fired and made this week’s expedition a total joke.

One Response to “A Note to Pirate Master: Fix your Challenges!”

The challenges do seem flawed, especially the sabotages I don’t think two teams should have to take different paths, because it could be that one path is easier than another. Given that, I don’t know how to solve the problem of one team following another and just not bothering with the clue.

The part that gets me is the mutiny. It seems unrealistic that you could ever get every crew member and both officers to mutiny. Why would the officers mutiny if it means they lose their officer status. Maybe there should be a stipulation that if you mutiny, you have to choose one of the two officers to take the captain’s place. That would give the officers some motivation to side with the crew.

The show is kind of cool, but if they expect to do a 2nd season, they have some kinks to work out.
