One of the most interesting and fascinating things on my favourite TV Show Heroes, is the character of Sylar. He is just so ruthlessly evil and self serving, and then at the end of last season, in a rare moment of Sylar’s regret I almost found myself LIKING him. Or maybe I just like Zachary Quinto. So of course when I heard that he was cast as the younger counterpart to Spock, my own ears were peaked with interest. Today I found a clip online showing the two of them in a short interview on
USA Today.
USA Today also says in the article:
Quinto and Nimoy have become fast friends since meeting briefly at San Diego’s Comic-Con sci-fi convention last month. They had more time to connect during a recent tour of the Griffith Observatory. That led to Nimoy inviting Quinto to his home for dinner.
Though there is speculation about how Abrams will make use of both Spocks in the film, no one is talking. “I honestly … can’t say,” Quinto, 30, says during lunch at the observatory’s cafe after bidding farewell to Nimoy.
But perhaps a tiny clue is revealed. “I think there’s going to be a sense of guidance through this film and beyond,” he says. In Nimoy, 76, Quinto has found a father figure of sorts.
Such a unique meeting of characters seeing the iconic Dr Spock meeting with his younger self, and as Nimoy says, the two of them certainly do have a similar look.
I was already excited about the new Star Trek film (mostly because its going to be something NEW) and with people like Quinto on board, I can’t help but love the idea!

The Heroes/Star Trek connection continues … first George Takei on Heroes, now Nichelle Nichols joins the cast this season.
AND then we have Sylar becoming Spock!
I’ve never been much of a Star Trek fan … but then again, I never liked the original Battlestar Galactica, but I can’t get enough of the new one! So I might just have to check this flick out.
Whew … that was tough to type … the BSG and Heroes withdrawal is really taking its toll! I think I’ve got the shakes!
I’m really glad that you’re including Star Trek news here. Hard to know where the line is drawn now between reporting Trek movie or TV news. Quinto is going to make a great Spock, and Nimoy’s endorsement of the new movie is enough for me.
