Tidbits from Leroy Jethro Gibbs Land

- In its preview of CBS’s new show Cane, Newsweek magazine details how “CBS doesn’t just want to be popular, it also wants to be cool, and NCIS just isn’t cool.” You can read the entire article here. Wow, what a back-handed compliment! While NCIS has steadily risen in the ratings in its first four years and finished in the top 20 shows last season, demographically NCIS does appeal more to an older audience and not the coveted younger audience networks strive for. Just one more thing to make me feel old!

- It just seems like Mark Harmon has always been a television fixture, but the truth is that NCIS’s Jethro Gibbs is now his longest running role. While Harmon has participated in many television shows, made-for-TV movies and even the occasional motion picture, he has never made it to a 5th season or 100 episodes of any series he’s been on. Scanning his IMDB page here, I see that the closest he ever came was his tenure on Chicago Hope with 4 seasons and 95 episodes. Close…but no cookie!

- David McCallum also counts NCIS as his longest running series this season. His IMDB page shows that though The Man From U.N.C.L.E. did make it to 100 episodes, it never made it to a 5th season.

- David McCallum will celebrate another anniversary this month as he and his wife have been married 40 years! Congrats to “the Duck-man”and his bride Katherine Carpenter.
