Friday Night Lights: Season 2 so far

We’re three episodes into the second season of Friday Night Lights, and it’s time for some thoughts. It should be said up front that I was nervous about a second season simply because of how fantastic I thought the first season was. I had hoped that maybe it would be left as a one season masterpiece, but alas the show continues on. How does it stand up?

Ever since the Landry expressed interest in Tyra I wanted something to happen between them, and the relationship that has spawned is certainly not the one I dreamed of or expected, but I find myself emotionally caught up in them worried about what will happen to Landry. This story arc adds a darker side to FNL but I think it will give us a chance to see further into two characters that weren’t as explored in season 1.

One could only assume that it was only a matter of time before Coach Taylor returned to Dillon and with his family falling apart I can’t wait to see him sorting out the mess that he’d left behind.

The only part of the season that has me a little concerned is the faith development in Lila and Tim. I can’t say it’s not realistic since my experience speaks to some of what’s happening in the show but I just hope that they show some positive developments in Lila and not just make her a hypocritical fanatic.

Originally I was worried that FNL would be too much about football but at this point in the second season I’m hoping for some more football soon because so much time has been put into the characters. Don’t get me wrong I love the character development but this show does football really well too.

What are your thoughts on Season Two so far? What do you like? Not like?

  1. Doug Said,

So far so good. I’m a little nervous about the Landry/Tyra thing, only because I’m not sure it fits with the rest of the show. But the writing and storytelling has been outstanding from season 1 to now, so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Still loving the show. Keeping my fingers crossed that we have a few more seasons to go.
