Chuck Ratings Down Again

After hitting a high last week, Chuck has dropped to a record low this week. According to Chuck Online:

After rising by over 1 million viewers last week, Chuck has dropped by over 1 million viewers this week to a series low of 7.14 Million Viewers during last night’s installment of “Chuck”.

This isn’t the best news in a season that the newspapers are all calling “disappointing.” What is really upsetting is that I found last night’s episode especially enjoyable. Morgan was enjoyable and human, Ellie had a great amount of character development. The mix of humor and action seemed to be finding it’s stride. Not to mention getting one more nugget of information about Chuck’s past. When Morgan said he’s had a “hard life” he wasn’t exaggerating.

What I especially enjoyed was that Chuck’s decisions to abandon his plans with family and friends made perfect sense. Usually a plot like this is done poorly, where the hero feels like he HAS to do something he could have skipped, and often I end up feeling that he should have put his family first. Usually the moral lesson is that our hero should be putting family first. But in this case, you see that Chuck is really torn. He couldn’t put off the “spy stuff” and he had to make the decisions that he did. He is stuck in a difficult situation and the decisions aren’t always going to work out right.

So if the show is just getting better every week, why are the ratings going down?
