Chuck is Everywhere

A few seasons ago, there was a Jack on every channel. Now Chuck is taking over the airwaves, in Pushing Daisies, Back to You, Gossip Girl, and of course, Chuck. According to Robert Philpot:

“But Schwartz’s ”Chuck” exemplifies so many positive Chuck attributes, he could bring Chuck-y back singlehandedly. Chuck is a diffident charmer, a guy who’s quick with a quip even while being terrified by the people shooting at him, an ordinary schmo thrust into extraordinary situations.”

The article actually goes into the history of the name, some of the more popular people named Chuck, and why Chucky is generally evil. Naming a character is one of the hardest things about writing, and I wonder if the people over at Chuck are actually kind of upset that the name has taken over the airwaves this season. It really suits Zachary Levi’s character, and it makes a very memorable show title. It’s not necessarily imaginative, but after one commercial I knew the show’s name.

Chuck’s alias of choice is Charles Carmichael, a slightly more suave and successful version of himself. But when you see him with Morgan and Ellie, you know why he’s Chuck and not Charles or Charlie. As the article says, “Chuck…would suggest approachability.”

I’m not sure if that applies to Chuck Norris, however.
