Bionic Woman got off to a rough start. First there were the standard casting changes and then role changes (sister isn’t deaf - now a hacker, etc) and then we saw the show’s boss getting changed. Again. and now Again.

Within the span of a month, NBC has appointed three successive showrunners tasked with turning Bionic Woman into a hit (coincidentally, each was named Jason). According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Cahill, noted for his tenure at HBO’s Sopranos, is now the latest body thrown into the still warm captain’s chair. There’s no word yet on whether the second Jason, Katims, will remain involved or instead return to single duty on Friday Night Lights.

I suppose this sort of showrunner potpourri fits with the spirit of the series, which continually introduces new characters, giving each a certain importance, and then treats them like set furniture to be shuffled randomly through the later episodes.

For me, watching Bionic Woman is a bit like watching my two year old daughter play. She wanders about from room to room, choosing things like toys, remote controls and baby dolls. Some she carries with her for a time, others are quickly discarded. And like the fickle suits at NBC, a toy that never leaves her side one day holds no interest for her the next. Although, thankfully, my daughter doesn’t spout immature tough-girl catch-phrases that repeatedly hinge on calling men “bitches”. (Well, not as yet anyway).

If you’re wondering whether Cahill and his impressive writing chops will bring about lasting change to the show, maybe a better question is: how long will NBC give him before he too is yanked for another showrunner named Jason?
