The Screen Actors Guild has announced their nominations for the SAG Awards. Over at EW.COM they have the list. What looks like one of the toughest categories is Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?)
America Ferrera (Ugly Betty)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds)
Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty)
Mary-Louise Parker continues to get high praise for her performance on weeds, and America Ferrera seems to still be a pretty hot property. Tina Fey is normally recognized for her excellent comedic writing, but her acting has managed to stand out on the talent heavy 30 Rock, especially with the likes of Alec Baldwin. It’s great to see Christina Applegate nominated for Samantha Who. She is excellent in her show, and makes what would be a cliche sitcom into a joy of a series to watch.
What is disappointing is a lack of nominations for Pushing Daisies and Big Love. Pushing Daisies is the best, most well crafted show on television in years. At minimum, it should replace Desperate Housewives in the ensemble category. Each one of the cast members work great together to make such an unbelievable world believable.
And what about Big Love? No Ginnifer Goodwin? No Bill Paxton? No ensemble cast nomination? Big Love rarely gets the recognition it deserves because of its theme. This is no exception.
Who else is missing? Who else shouldn’t be there?
