Some of you may remember the Val Kilmer film “The Saint,” but even more of you may remember the classic 60’s era television series starring Roger Moore. Ring a bell?
According to Dark Horizons, the character Simon Templar is about to make a return to television.
The posting says “we can confirm that pre-production has started on a two-hour pilot film for a new series of The Saint. It will star James Purefoy as the Saint and will shoot in Berlin and Australia in April next year. Film will be produced by William J. Macdonald, Geoffrey Moore and Jorge Zamacona.”
I think this is cool news. Although, I couldn’t tell you a single storyline or plot from the original series, I do remember enjoying watching the reruns on FX (back when the channel was all classic shows), and while this opinion may not be popular, I did like the 1997 film. So, I say bring it on. I’m all for it.
But on the other hand, they have tried many times to remake classic shows for television, and most of the attempts have failed. Remember The Fugitive series they had a few years back? Lets hope this isn’t another one of those.

I too liked the Kilmer movie, but have no recollection of the Moore TV show. I think it could have promise for a TV show shot, but you’re probably right on the remake strikeout effect. And yeah, I remember The Fugitive too…
