The WGA Strike and Big Love

In a recent interview, Jean Tripplehorn commented on Big Love, and how production has been postponed because of the strike.

“I knew there was no way were were going to be able to get around the strike,” she said. “A lot of shows were stockpiling scripts but we just couldn’t do that. They are writing literally until right before we step in front of the camera. … I think that’s what makes it so palpable and tense because, as actors, it keeps us on our toes.”

Awhile back when Big Love was picked up for a 3rd season, I reported that the reason it was green-lit so soon was to try to get pre-production moving before the strike. Obviously it didn’t work out as scheduled.

We’re suffering a mid-season famine of new shows right now, but it’s shows like Big Love that may be hurt the most. Fall shows were able to somewhat prepare for the coming strike. Shows that haven’t yet started their production, have much more catch up to do when (if) the strike is resolved.

Big Love ended last season very strong. I look forward to next season, and hope they continue to grow stronger.
