Strike overshadows entire year

Time called it one of the top 10 shows of the year, but it’s the worst show according to USA Today:

This is one of the worst entertainment ideas since people stopped bringing picnics to public executions. Parents who sign away their children’s rights and their own responsibility so little Dick and Jane can become cash-cow campers in a Lord of the Flies commune?

Sadly, that is the only really interesting contrast in the article. Pushing Daisies is the best new show (of course), Heroes is called out (again) for being lackluster, The Sopranos finale is mentioned, and the strike is called the “Awful Event of the Year.”

Still, it would be a mistake for the writers to try our patience — which means knock off the Internet postings designed to prove how clever you are. The only thing we want to hear from anyone is “strike settled.” Preferably before we end up hating both sides.

I completely agree, the longer this goes on the less ground they have to stand on. News stories are starting to sway, no longer glorifying their fight. If nothing else, living in Hollywood these people should know that public opinion swings fast, and one of the worst things they have to fear is the backlash.

So many interesting things happened in television this year. Shows took on new talent and stars rose out of nowhere. Lost went from being made fun of and bemoaned to again being the top of the heap. Aren’t there more moments out there we can celebrate before we have to talk about the strike again? I for one am happy that science-fiction shows are starting to become more mainstream every season. Maybe soon people will stop talking about how they like Battlestar Galactica, “even though it’s Sci-Fi.”
