Keeping watch: HBO’s TRUE BLOOD

A couple of mid-season shows having me checking my DVR “scheduled to record” dates daily to see if I can yet program for the series (my little motorola MOXI only records two weeks out), however, True Blood has me frantically searching every web site I can conceive of for a premiere date. From Variety contributor Michael Schneider (08/09/07):

Alan Ball is back in HBO’s court, as the paycabler has officially picked up the vampire series “True Blood.”
Ball, who created the hit “Six Feet Under” for HBO, will exec produce and showrun “True Blood,” which is based on the novel series “Southern Vampire” from author Charlaine Harris

Starring a blond Anna Paquin (The Piano, X-Men trilogy, best part of She’s All That), with pilot written by Ball and a couple of eps (according to IMDB) written by Charlaine Harris. I LOVE Charlaine Harris! I am SO looking forward to this. THIS SERIES is like my favorite sort of genre thing. According to several sources, the series was to premiere in autumn of this year. Grrrr- clearly *that* didn’t work. HBO has it featured in their 2007-2008 promo   (youtube)- be patient the 2 seconds are 1:47 into the clip. CharlaineHarris.com has a brief note from Ms. Harris regarding the series and has collected the press releases and related material here.

Are there any other shows in the can that y’all can’t wait to see? Though I’ve been underwhelmed with other genre novel adaptations (poor poor Harry Dresden), I’m on pins and needles that True Blood will be marvelous. Happy New Year!

Nice catch. This is the first I’ve heard of the show, but certainly sounds like something I’d be interested it. Will have to keep my eye on it.

I have been waiting for this show since I first heard about it in the spring of 2007. The only thing I heard, according to this article, is that it’s supposed to start in January:

Now I don’t have HBO, being in Canada, but I do have TMN, which carries most HBO programs, and I’ve yet to see a promo for it.

Glad to see others are as eager for this show as I am!
