New ways to get into the gate

Stargate: SG-1 might be canceled, but there’s plenty of new things for Gaters to enjoy, including the new Stargate Worlds MMORPG. The trailer for the game will air tonight, according to Kotaku:

After giving you some time to recover from the clip, on January 18th the Unlock The Gate sweepstakes begins, which will feature special codes given out during Atlantis every Friday that give fans a chance to have their name or likeness incorporated into the game. Look for the trailer tonight on SciFi at 10PM Eastern.

The Get in the Gate sweepstakes has been a big draw for Stargate fans for years, and giving them a chance to appear in the game sounds like almost as much fun as being on the set. Plus, unveiling the trailer during Atlantis tonight might help the show regain some momentum.

This also helps keep the show in the public eye, since the hype surrounding Atlantis has faltered and the new movies aren’t in the can just yet. Atlantis, despite being praised in the beginning, has fallen further and further from the public consciousness. I’ve met people who are surprised it’s even still on.

Despite bringing in an actress I love (Jewel Staite) I actually haven’t watched Atlantis for two seasons. I got bored with watching the characters make the same bad decisions over and over again. These days it seems they’re taking SG-1’s plots and changing them just enough to get away with it. But I’ll probably watch tonight just to catch the video game trailer. I normally don’t like MMOs, but if it’s Stargate I’ll give it a shot.

I was sour on Atlantis at first, but it has gotten remarkably better. Especially with the addition of Samantha Carter. It has more of an SG-1 feel to it now.
