Now here is what happens when we run out of scripts in Hollywood. We start bringing back the 80s. Variety is reporting that several networks are considering bringing back a circus style show.
The circus is coming to Hollywood, with NBC closing a deal for Endemol USA’s hit format “Celebrity Circus” — and ABC eyeing a souped-up revival of 1980s fave “Circus of the Stars.” Both CBS and Fox have also expressed interest in the celeb circus format. With at least two more formats in the marketplace, it’s possible other webs could soon be under the big top as well.
I remember this show when I was growing up. It was so “80s” that I can’t imagine updating it at all. Circuses aren’t as important to the culture as they once were. Now, we may have 5 similar shows on the networks. A couple of years ago they revived Battle of the Network Stars with a reality version. If they want to bring back celebrity contest shows, why not Battle? I fear that even though the WGA is getting closer to a deal, our network shows will be stuck in a circus. Thoughts?
