If you missed Jericho before it went off the air and fans went “nuts” to bring it back, you’ll have a chance to catch up. TV Crunch reports:
“Jericho” fans can catch a four-episode marathon on SciFi Channel on February 11th. The second season of “Jericho” begins on February 12 on CBS.
I heard a lot of good things about this show, but missed it the first time around. Though it does bring up an interesting thought. I can remember back in the day, pre-internet, a show would get canceled and people would mourn but would just move along. Now it seems no show goes off the air without a campaign by rabid fans. At first it was just letters and phone calls, but then the bottles of hot sauce started (that was the first “themed” campaign I remember).
Now several tons of nuts have brought back Jericho for a limited run. But most of these fan campaigns fizzle. What do studio heads really think of these? Are they quietly amused, or is it possible for it to swing the other way and annoy them? Just because a lot of people can send Mars bars doesn’t mean that Veronica Mars was still making the network money, or that enough fans are really tuning in week to week.
So, do you think Jericho deserves it’s second chance? If a network canceled your favorite show, would you join in a campaign to bring it back?

If a company can make money televising a show, it should be televised. If it cant, they shouldnt. Fans can send in all the nuts they want, but this doesnt bring in ad dollars. What they should really be doing is buying the things that are sold during the show and writing to tell the companies that advertise they did so becuase of that ad. No amount of popular support will bring back a show that is in the red.

I definitely agree. I also think that, like any good business, you have to be prepared to take a hit early on, but if you believe in your product (or show), you have to give it a chance to develop an audience. Jericho was a great show and I think certainly deserves another season. If at the end of season 2 ratings haven’t improved then, as much as I wouldn’t like it, I can understand them cancelling it. Just my 2 cents.
What happened with Jericho was that we told CBS many viewers were watching online and they weren’t being counted, CBS depended on Nielsen ratings which did not capture total viewers.
Also, CBS has admitted they made the mistake of putting Jericho on hiatus so they knew Jericho deserved another season because the fault lay with CBS,
So, yes, Jericho deserves another chance. Thanks.
Jane, that actually brings up something I’ve been wondering: how do the networks count up online viewing? I know I’m watching Terminator online instead of when it comes on. I usually caught Heroes on Netflix online instead of when it aired.
It seems like the whole ratings system isn’t really working anymore, or at least doesn’t accurately reflect the fans of a show. I wonder if they’re trying to change it.
Elizabeth,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. Supposedly, Nielsen is putting a new program in place that will count online viewers. I’m not sure when it’ll be ready. You might check their website.
They are trying to change the system but I don’t know. It’s awfully flawed.
TICK TICK TICK TICK……BOOM!!!
WATCH JERICHO FEB. 12th TUES. 10 p.m. EST on CBS!!
I PROMISE YOU’LL LOVE IT!!
You can even watch the entire first season FREE on CBS.com.
Jane, thanks! I’ll have to check out their website. I think the old Nielsen system is so outdated, I’m amazed that they haven’t embraced the technology to actually do their job better.
Elizabeth,
They learned from Jericho when it was shown to have so many online viewers. They even admitted that impacted their decision to start HeyNielsen which does not impress me. I hope they improve.
