I admit. I didn’t make it more than 10 minutes watching this show. This quote from Variety is the reason why.
At the heart of “Truth,” after all, is the fact that the contestants knew precisely what they were getting into — and, indeed, were asked the questions that are supposed to flummox them in advance when the lie-detector test was administered. In other words, the subjects raised aren’t entirely out of left field.
Once I realized that this contestant had already given the answers, it seemed so incredibly stupid. All the contestant had to do is repeat the same answers that he/she repeated backstage to win. Now granted, it may be more difficult to say those things in front of others, but they know what the questions will be…they know what answers they have to give. Not to mention the standard dramatic pause present in all “reality” game shows, which was more unnecessary in this show than ever. This is proof that the writers strike is causing them to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
Did anyone enjoy this show? Am I missing something?

Technically, they’re asked those questions backstage while still hooked up to a polygraph, so if they lie both times they’ll still be caught? I’m not entirely sure how the show gets around the inherent problems with “lie detectors.”
But they’re asked control questions, and just giving the answer they gave before might not save them, depending on how it’s done. Honestly, I have no idea how the show can actually pretend to be about forcing people to tell the truth.
Sadly, I watched. The only reason I hung around is because I’m a Personal Trainer, so I was curious about the first contestant. But the dramatic pauses pissed me off and I won’t be tuning in again. Also agree that it is pretty dumb for them to be asked the questions first. My understanding was that the first time, they were hooked up to the polygraph. They weren’t told what the results were. So although they are repeating their answers, it is in front of the audience that they find out the polygraph results. Still stupid, though.
Amen Doug…..the pauses are fucking lame as hell and some of the questions were very personal. Like the personal trainer and his wife, i am suprised if they are still together and then the guy after him was a total DB and very annoying. The host was also annoying…..dont plan on watching it again.
