CBS importing Canadian show

CBS has another trick up their sleeve to fill out their schedules: bring shows over from Canada. According to Reuters:

CBS has agreed to import a new Canadian-produced TV police drama called “Flashpoint” in a deal that lets the network bypass the home-grown “pilot” development process shut down by the screenwriters’ strike

The show stars Enrico Colantoni, who you probably know from Veronica Mars. It’s a one-hour police drama.

CBS says that they had been planning to do something like this for a while, and it makes some sense. American audiences are warming up more and more to shows made in other countries. I’m not sure what sets this particular show apart from others of it’s type, but I enjoy Colantoni so I’ll give it a shot.

I suppose this is one of the first changes I’ve seen that I would actually label as a benefit. Broadening American horizons by bringing over shows instead of filming our own versions is probably a very good thing.
