Heroes: Boring villains?

The upcoming portion of Heroes is called “Villains” and some people aren’t thrilled with the idea.
io9 says:

Now that we know volume three of Heroes will be called “Villains,” it’s not too soon to start bracing ourselves for the worst. After all, that show hasn’t had the greatest track record in creating and sustaining villains so far. There’s no surefire way to make a villain scary and memorable. But there are some proven methods for making your villains dull and wimpy, and Heroes has used a few of them.

I personally think that Sylar has been unbearably dull this season, and I can’t imagine why they bothered to bring him back. He was fantastic last season, but I think there’s not a lot of places they can go with him this season. It reminds me of that idea of the fans having too much power: did they keep Sylar around just because he was so popular? Should he have died as Peter exploded over Manhattan?

I also agree with their assessments of Bob, HRG, and Ms. Petrelli. I think Ms. Petrelli has more wasted potential in one scene of her storyline than any other character on the entire show (except, perhaps, Claire, who conveniently went back to being a petulant teenager after a season of character growth and became so annoying I was wishing she could die). Ms. Petrelli schemes and plans tend to make a twisted kind of sense, and more than once she’s been proven right in the long run. So why hasn’t she been used to her full potential yet? Why is she still just there to drop a bit of information, be a kink in the plans, and then be forgotten?

So what do you want out of the new episodes of Heroes when the show comes back? Who do you want to learn more about?

  1. GODFATHER Said,

What do I want? Well, let’s see: No one seems to really “die” in this show. No matter what power they have, they always seem to “come back”. That’s shitty, especially when you continue to bring in other characters. And why is it that people in the same family all of a sudden have powers too? Cousin’s, siblings, lovers…Whatever. Season two ended with less acclaim than season one. The villains aren’t even all that bad, plus, there doesn’t seem to be enough of them. The show is getting too predictable.

On the flip side, Kensei dude is probably going to end up being Claire’s biological father. Why are the hotter female actor’s killed or sent off (Bob’s daughter and that shape-shifter from season one)? I know this show pays tribute to X-Men in a way, but come on… At least make it a grown-up version.

To me, that quote just sounds like “nags” to me.

  3. Josh Kelhoffer Said,

I guess to go into more detail of what I just said. I think io9 is basically just nagging. I don’t consider Mrs. Patrelli and HRG villians, they both see like grey areas. They either seem to or do evil things, but something about them seems that they seems unvillianish, and I don’t think they are meant to be considered villians, and at least, not yet. HRG will probably go all good in the end. I can see that happening.

And the fact that they are complaining about a season that hasn’t aired yet. Sure, they are basing it off of what they have seen in the past seasons, but it seems like they are assuming that a season called “Villians” won’t introduce “Villians” and that it’ll just be about Bob and HRG and Mrs Patrelli, and possibly Sylar (but according to an issue of EW from last season, he’s supposed to disappear for a while, due to his obligations of Star Trek, of course, that might change because “Villians” before the strike, was to be the second half of season 2).

I liked Sylar in season one. To me, until they introduce someone new, he’s the villian of the series.

I love the show. The only things I didnt like from the show is Ali Larter’s character, her kid, those two people that were hitching with Sylar.

Also, I agree with your comments with Claire. It seemed like she all of a sudden forgot the first season. It’s like “Oh, I hate these amazing powers. These completely awesome powers are ruining my high school life,” which was just as pathetic and lame as her boyfriend from season 2.
