With the WGA strike over, many shows are jumping right back into production. Well, not so for Big Love. According to BuddyTV, co-creator Will Scheffer says they are taking their time.
“It’s great we can have that much time to work on the quality of the show,” Scheffer told the Los Angeles Times. “A lot of networks will be rushing things into production, and people won’t have much time to think.”
Recent reports also indicate that Big Love’s third season, which, like fellow HBO series Entourage, originally had been scheduled to begin in the summer, won’t hit the screen until late this year or even early 2009.
Scheffer goes on to say that with the strike they had time to “revisit all the scripts” and that it “changes your creative mandate”. I have mixed feelings about that. Most of the time, too much time spent is a bad thing. I hope no major storylines are changed. Big Love was going very well towards the end of last season, and I was looking forward to seeing it continue.

They seriously need to get a move on with Season 3. I am going through withdrawal! And they don’t even have the first 2 seasons on HBO On Demand anymore!
If they wait too long we will get interested in something else and they will lose their audience…don’t they think about us???
This is really very dissapointing. My wife and I are avid viewers of Big Love, and having to wait until (maybe) next year is really very frustrating. Just when you start to get into some great television, the writer’s strike puts a blockade on all the shows and we the public suffer! I’ve even got my kids and their friends tuning in, too . . . hate to break this news to the family. HBO . . . light a fire under the production company and get Big Love back on the tube soon.
I can’t wait for it to start either but you all have to remember that making a telivision series is a lot of work. These people put in long hours filming then it is not done after the filming. It is not a 9-5 job like most people have. I just wish people would give all these people a break. It is the writers fault that this is all happening pretty much. These strikes that all of these different groups are having these days are ridiculous. When people already make enough money or get enough benefits they just want more and more (example ball players.) When there are regular people out there that barely get by or have nothing at all. But anyhow off topic. Just give the television and production companies a break. They will get these shows out as soon as they can.

Im willing to wait for season 3 as long as it takes. They say they want to focus on the quality of show. Some networks throw their programs together so fast and it shows, quite often the dialogue is horrible, unrehearsed, actors performances are less than desired. Who knows? they might have some real surprises in store for Big Love Viewers. Good things come to those who wait. Right?

I agree with everyone who posted this is really crazy how they are delaying the show. I wanted to jump back into watching the show after being hooked on it, and i dont understand why they are taking so long.
I have been waiting and watching…checking OnDemand. Today, April 26, was the first time I saw an episode in many months, on regular HBO. Another 6 or 9 months is tooooooooooooooooo long to wait. AT LEAST begin showing BIG LOVE repeats on OnDemand and on a regular basis on regular HBO (is this starting as I saw the Season 2 finale today?). BIG LOVE is one of my favorite shows. Though I am loyal, I imagine a lot of viewers, when BIG LOVE does not come back in 6 weeks or so, will think it has been cancelled. Viewership could definately be lost. I hope not. In my experience, most people don’t search the internet for news about the shows they like.
I hate to wait that long to see Big Love again but we will wait. I am from Utah and in a pologamy family like on Big Love so we watch this as a family and relate very much too it. This is a great show and can’t wait until it returns.
God only knows what I’d be without Big Love.
As far as I’m concerned Big Love is over with. By the time they start working on season three, all the children on that show are going to be bigger, how are they going to play it off? I just get the feeling it won’t be the same. They took too long!
I understand that it may take a while to come back on, but I am rather upset that HBO won’t put up episodes on demand. I mean COME ON! Give us something here!! They need to put season two on demand!! You can’t just expect us to go cold turkey here!
I’m so glad to see that other people watch this show, too… everyone else I know has never even heard of it! I was afraid it was not coming back because only 1 person in the world watched it! Oh well… until fall or later will be a long time, but I agree… the sweet isn’t as sweet without the bitter! I hope the long wait will make the next season even more exciting!!

Same goes for me. The only reason I have HBO is for Big Love, especially now that Sopranos are over. I am dying for it to come back on. This show is amazing and so insightful into a lifestyle I can’t even imagine. The Texas FDLS deal has really given me a craving!! BRING IT BACK!!

I just cancelled my HBO. I was going to cancel after the Soprano’s but got hooked on Big Love. I am tired of waiting for season 3 and will wait no longer.

Waiting does suck but in the mean time you can do what I did and go and buy seasons one and two on DVD. I keep watching them over and over and it fills the void…for now.
I just had HBO added to my cable service again because I was afraid I might miss Big Love. I only purchase it to watch Big Love and I am so upset that I cannot find a date for the season premier. I NEED TO KNOW!!!!! LOL. Come on HBO get a move on it, I do not want to have to cancel my subscription.
Big love is the most groundbreaking series on television. I am upset that HBO isn’t returning it sooner, and I don’t understand why season 2 isn’t on demand.
I waited and waited for Deadwood & Carnivale… but they canceled those just when they were getting good! I hope they come out with BL soon or I’m going to cancel my HBO subscription. I think they take so long just to milk us out of more money. They have to be in cahoots with Comcast!

I’m with those willing to wait.It’s coming and if the show isn’t supported there won’t be a season 4. Some of my favorite shows were canceled because of ratings.If everyone stops watching because they are angry they won’t keep making the show that we all love and that would be a true tragedy.

Although I would love season 3 to begin next week - I will wait just as long as it DOES come back on. It is a fantastic show - the acting, story line, etc.

All I have been talking about is the rerun of the show… Till I found this web page today. Now I am not to happy, I am not one bit surprised! It is exactly what they did with the Sopranos. The sesons were never caught up to what they should be you had to wait a very long time. Now this is what they are doing with Big Love.
They get us hooked and take it all away. They know that the show is good enough that no matter how long it takes to come back on we will all watch it. We can’t help it. The show is a hit!

With the internet, I highly doubt people will “think” the show got cancelled. The only reason it will lose viewers is because the excitement of our regularly scheduled programming (summer session now) and some of us have other stuff we watch during the time that Big Love will be coming back (now).
I have DirecTV and don’t have access to OnDemand (maybe we will have it by time Big Love comes, who knows), so I will have to pick what shows I would rather watch/DVR (and if there is no room left then one of them gets booted….)
Unfortunately, HBO is not known for running their GOOD series for long term, so I may just consider Big Love a “wash” at this point.. I would hate to miss out on my other shows (that are longterm & probably will stick around evnr LONGER) just to watch “one more” (with the “possibility” of another) season of Big Love.
Ah well, in the meantime I’m canceling HBO (since I only have it for Big Love and Entourage), I guess.
I’m watching the pilot of “Big Love” on HBO on demand right now, so clearly at least the first season is back on there.
I’m really annoyed that Big Love season 3 isn’t coming this summer — it was my summer addiction for the last two years. Grr.
This delay in season 3 productions has really hurt the growing fan base of this series. I regret I am included in that observation. I too, as many, got lots of people addicted to Big Love only to have those new viewers lose interest with no new episodes to watch. Time is of the essence HBO!!!!!! Don’t miss out on a potentially big hit.

I have to agree with everyone this really makes me insane. I love these shows and because im in college i look foward to coming home and being able to watch my 2 favorite shows all summer break. Now im threatened with the new shows might now air until January. This means that im gonna have to avoid watching any episodes of Big love or Entourage and wait until they both come out on DVD. And we all know what that means. Nights that you know you need to get into bed but you just cant wait to see what happens to Barb and Margene or E convinces Vince to take the next movie deal. Thanks writers strike it is possible that you just ruined my life. lol
I loved the first season. It was a funny often poignant exploration of an unusual lifestyle. For the second season, someone made the unfortunate decision to turn Bill Henrickson into Tony Soprano. As a result, the quality of the show plunged. For the third season, I hope they come to their senses.
I started watching BL when the Sopranos went off the air. I am very dissapointed that they are waiting so long to start season 3. I am going to cancel my HBO subscription and go with Showtime so that I can at least watch The Tudors (great show). Maybe I will pick it back up when they finally do start the new season. I hope they aren’t doing what they did with The Sopranos (waiting 2 years to give us another season.)
The show is definitely coming back 11 January 2009. As much as it hurts, I understand why they are delaying.

I can’t believe people are so glued to their tv sets, that this is such a huge deal to them. Now don’t get me wrong…I love the show. But seriously, I think we’ll all survive if the new season doesn’t air until 2009. Hey, until then, let’s try to focus on something that’s actually important…like world hunger or global warming…or the upcoming presidential election. Just a thought.
I can’t understand the long delays in production for Big Love. If they can crank out the Law & Order series like they do (and it is the same 1 hour run time) for a weekly show, then I don’t see why they can’t do the same for this show. I did cancel HBO this year because they just don’t offer anything good.
As for BIG LOVE withdrawal, the answer is NETFLIX. They have the series and I’m alread have it queued for Season 3 as soon as it becomes available. Since I have to wait for eternity, whats a few months longer?
And really, last season was not nearly as good as the first, so they really do need to take their time to make it realistic.

I’ve been so burned by HBO dropping it’s series mid story that I’m getting a little nervous. I’ve wasted countless hours on shows like Carnival, Deadwood and John from Cinncinatti that I’m worried this whole Big Love thing is just another flash in the pan without the talented needed from the creators to see it through. Any “Lost” watchers out there who can relate to this?
I pay good money for this channel when I could be renting the same stuff from netflix. I only spend the money because of the series they put together. I can rent by 10 copies of Braveheart for the cost of keeping HBO one month. If HBO lets me down again, I will be the most devout SHOWTIME subscriber in the midwest. At least they haven’t repeatedly wasted my time and let me down like HBO has. I think the network has gotten a bit cocky from the success of a few shows to recall the effort it takes to stay on top. Showtime is my go to channel these days. Dexter and Tudors are always there providing great entertainment and I can count on the network to see it through. Thank God HBO had the decency to kill Tony Soprano (even though it was a little whimpy) and give us an end instead of just dropping it like a bad habit.

Come on already. People are going to lose interest in this show. It has been over a year. All of the other shows are back on. When are they going to realize that people love this show? This is the one show that my husband and I actually sit down and watch together. We have the DVR set every week for it! HBO….. Bring it back. I mean come on really????????
