With kids 6-13, “High School Musical” is a phenomenon. There’s concerts, ice shows, music, and television all with the cast of the hit movie. ABC is going to try to again capitalize on the hype with a reality show. TVGasm has this:

High School Musical is coming to network television. ABC has picked up a multi-episode reality competition where they place a group of singers in a musical conservatory until they find one winner. Sounds like Idol, but with all things HSM. And of course the show will have guest appearances by the HSM cast. The prize still hasn’t been released yet, but I’m sure it will be the standard: a lump sum of money, an agent and/or manager, and a spot on the next HSM. It’s set to air this summer, and I can’t wait.

I just spent this past Saturday at with my kids at High School Musical: The Ice Tour, and I can tell you that the love for this product hasn’t died down. It is kind of a cleaner version of Grease for this generation.

I’m not so sure about it being prime time. Most of the HSM fan base goes to bed by 8:30. What do you think?
