Recent speculation on whether “Smallville” or “Supernatural” would return next season has been put to rest. The CW press release has the news:

Also renewed were the long-running Thursday night team of SMALLVILLE, which will begin its eighth season, and SUPERNATURAL, which will begin its fourth season. In addition, the critically acclaimed comedy EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS will return for season four.

I’m not a watcher of “Supernatural”, so I cannot comment on its renewal (please share your thoughts in the comments). But, for “Smallville”, I wonder if they should maybe just stop at 7.

“Smallville” now is a different show than it once was. At one time, it showed promise of being the show that Superboy failed to be. It’s not a new criticism, but it became a teen-angst drama ironically after Clark graduated from High School. If they want to continue this style of drama, they should spin-off Smallville without Clark. Send Clark off on Superman’s legendary journey to find his destiny.

There is a rumor that Michael Rosenbaum wouldn’t be part of an 8th season. The writers could use his departure shake up the show, or it could become more Clark-Lana centric. Thoughts?

Really?!?!? Smallville for another season?? That show has gone downhill worse than any other show I’ve ever watched. It went from being a pretty cool show to being what might as well be Degrassi: The Next Generation (With special guest Clark Kent)

I do hear good things about supernatural though.

You don’t watch Supernatural? It’s without a doubt the best tv show on air that people don’t watch apparently. I tune in every week it’s on, simply amazing show, in my opinion.

As for Smallville, there’s rumors that Lana won’t be back next season so we all win. :D

I watched the first 2 episodes of Supernatural and it didn’t grab me. Plus, I didn’t need to add another show to my DVR which is already too full.

Supernatural is one of those shows I expect to catch in syndication some day, or on DVD.

You should really pick up the DVD set for Supernatural. It became an amazing show once it found it’s footing. There are some filler episodes like any series has but overall it’s outstanding.

Lol I just saw an article on IGN.com that Lex AND Lana both won’t be joining next season.
