Chloe Sullivan is arguably the star of “Smallville”. Chloe has been involved in nearly every major plot line, and has ties to every single other major character. Not even Clark can say that. Now with the exit of Lex and Lana next season, “Smallville” can’t afford to loose Chloe. According to TVGuide’s Ausiello, Allison Mack and company know this too.

“Allison’s camp used Michael leaving as leverage in the negotiations with [Warner Bros.],” says one Smallville source, who adds that Kristin Kreuk’s decision to only return for a handful of episodes as Lana only strengthened Mack’s bargaining position. “They need Chloe now more than ever — and Allison’s people know it.” (Mack’s reps declined to comment for this story.)

“If Allison leaves, they’ve essentially got Lois and Clark left,” notes one insider. “And that show’s been done before.”

I’m a huge fan of Mack and Chloe alike. If it isn’t obvious, I consider her the anchor of the show, both the character and the actor. If they loose her, maybe Clark should think about moving out of “Smallville” and begin his quest to become Superman.

Just to throw it out there. Get Aquaman, Green Arrow and Flash back and start a real Justice League tv show. But, I don’t watch “Smallville” anymore, so what do you think? Can they stand the loss of Chloe? Should they scrap the cast (sans Clark) and start over?

You’re stupid, Larry! :( Chloe is fugly and sooo stupid! Like last time when she tried to “hide” a key from Lex. When Clark is in a hurry and asks her something she can’t give him a straight answer but instead says something that she think is funny but you can tell that Clark would like to punch her lights out! Smallville is Suckville! Talk about lame show that don’t live up to its potential! :(

  2. Larry Says:

Hey, I agree. Smallville has gotten lame. But that isn’t the fault of the actors, it is the fault of the writers. Which is why I no longer watch.

I appreciate your opinion, but I’d prefer a rational debate on the subject, not childish rantings.

But hey, everyone has their opinion, and you have expressed yours.

i think smallville has passed its prime, i think its time to saddle up the horse and end the show with a bang (smallville being blown up anyone?)

  4. Jon Says:

Larry, for someone who doesnt watch Smallville anymore, you sure talk about it alot :). Best to just make a clean break. Personally, Id cancel the show. Its going to ruin whats his names career. I cant imagine CW is making money.

  5. Jon Says:

Oh and how about posting some BSG blog so I can hate on that too.

  6. Larry Says:

    @Jon

I just want to love Smallville. I miss it. I miss the enjoyment I used to get out of it. It’s the wonderful ex-girlfriend that you had a bad break up with.

  7. Jess Says:

Without AM, the show is dead to me.

  8. A Says:

I agree with you Allison Mack character is the only good thing the show had left besides Clark of course if she goes I will go and with me a lot of viewers that enjoy a hard working smart woman and a heroine by themselve something rare on this show.
CW better give Allison what is needed for her to stay or they are doomed.

  9. Cris Says:

The star of Smallville is Tom Welling. And he’s the only one the show needs to keep going, it is after all the story about young Superman.
And while Chloe was a good sidekick for years, and watching her help Clark was fun, the last few years they mainly used her as exposition girl to fill in plot points. Add to that how her Clark hero worship has grown during years, that in the last episode she told Clark he’ll have to accept he belongs on the pedestal, called him God, and advocated murdering Lex - I’d say Chloe is starting to loose it when it comes to keeping Clark’s secret, and maybe leaving wouldn’t be a bad idea.
The bigger hit for the show is loosing Michael/Lex. If anyone should have lots of money throw at them it’s him, and they should rather spend all that money they’d pay Allison to get Lex back for the last few episodes. He is after all more important for the story.

I agree without allison the show will die

The network can’t seem to see past names. If they actually watched the show from the start then they would understand why losing Chloe will unravel the whole show. Lex was important, but they have always only used him as a part time villian and as for more money, Michael Rosenbaum got first crack at anything the CW was willing to offer.

Smallville has always contained flashes of brilliance and such great potential it hurts to watch all that potential be stripped away.

Chloe “Plot Device” Sullivan cripples the show and the main characters. Hack into homeland security, pulling time travel theories out of her ass and ordering Clark Kent around, going as far as calling him God and wanting him to MURDER his enemies. She is so done. Clark used to be able to figure stuff out on his own, but in order for Chloe to have a role the writers need to dumb him down. Enough already. She makes me miss even Lana for crying out loud.

This show needs to take it to the next level. Let Clark lead his own life and make his own decisions without some halfwit SupahHackah putting him on her pedestal telling him to MURDER people. This show has become a joke with what they’ve done do it on account of Chloe. Seriously, there are techie characters on NICKALODEAN and the Disney Channel that make more sense than Chloe Sullivan does. Take a look at Sleeper: that’s the kind of horsecrap the show would be if Chloe was leading lady. It’s bad enough she got more screen time than Lex Luthor. Writers need to lay off the crack pipe, stop being lazy, and write her out and start writing Clark Kent IN.

  13. leothelion Says:

No, I don’t think Smallville can or should survive without Chloe. If Chloe hadn’t been written with the spirit of a young iconic Lois Lane or made to be Clark’s closest confidante and BFF, then she might be a little more expendable, but the show has long since crossed over that bridge.

Add to the problem the lack of genuine character development for the remaining supporting characters, and the problems are glaring. Mack is the reason we even know what’s happening on this show because Chloe is so integral to the show’s narrative. She’s it’s resident exposition hag, secret keeper, BFF and soulmate to Clark–you can’t replace that relationship by contriving new and redefined relationships with other secondary characters in the show’s final season. It won’t work.

I’m acquainted with lots of people who are more than prepared to walk away from this show after the season 7 finale–many many people will not return for season 8 without Mack fully onboard with the show.

  14. kelly Says:

Seriously Jason you are so spot dang on. I was so ashamed to be a fan of this show when they had that Chloefest called Sleeper. It was like being transplanted into a very bad very cheeky kids movie! Everyone I know loves Clark and Lois and wonder what the hell that dingbat Chloe is always doing hanging off of him and telling him how to tie his own shoes. It’s so aggravating and arrogant! I dont know how Clark puts up with her yapping cuz I just change the channel when she gets into her CHLOE SERMONS OF UTTER OBVIOUSNESS AND DO-AS-I-TELL-YOU. Just stfu Chloe.

I think the appeal of chloe with many of these online peeps, because I sure as hell dont know regular fans who give a fig about her, is that she is this plain jane who gets to hang out with this total hottie. And for regular joe guys like Jimmy she is more ettainable than Kristin or Erica lookswise. I wouldnt care if she wasnt so ridiculous and plot device-y. Enough is enough, the gig is up. Time for Clark to fly!

  15. nzs Says:

I don’t think SV can’t go on without Chloe Sullivan. She is “Lois Lane” for this incarnation of Clark Kent. She’s the show’s intrepid reporter with the journalist integrity of the old guard reporters. She’s Clark’s best friend/confidante/partner. No one else even comes close. To lose her now spells disaster for the show.

  16. Alicia Says:

Without AM/Chloe, they might as well cancel the show! I know I won’t watch with AM gone, because it would mean watching only one original character with a bunch of new characters that I am not emotionally invested in yet. I love Chloe and she’s definitely the heroine of the story. Clark rarely comes out as heroice lately with Lana by his side, and well Lex ROCKS, but they are loosing MR, so they need AM, desperately!

  17. Larry Says:

It looks like Chloe is staying. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Ausiello-Scoop-Allison/800039677?rssDate=12345678

@Jason and @kelly, the reason Chloe comes across as a “plot device” is because she is the only major character not in the original canon.

When the lazy writers paint themselves into a corner, they have to go to Chloe to get them out because she is the only character that they have complete control over.

If they would have brought other original characters into the series instead of appropriating Lois, Jimmy and Lex they would have had much more freedom. But then again they’d have to get off there ass and be original.

I wish “Smallville” the best of luck. They are going to need it.

  18. Dale Says:

No, actually, she comes off as a plot device because she’s completely ridiculous. They pull stuff out of their butts and assign it to her magically like her trunk for of gadgets or HACKING INTO HOMELAND SECURITY, the kremlin, the vatican, whathavyou

She is utterly preposterous. And AM isn’t even easy on the eyes so it’s even harder to watch the stupidity she spouts and the crazy skills they suddenly give her.

At least I know I dont have to watch next season. Changing the channel every time Chjloe is on screen means I miss most of the show and a lot of Clark stuff. Shame really.
