Big changes are afoot behind the scenes of BBC’s hit series Doctor Who.
Hugo and BAFTA award-winning writer Steven Moffat will be taking the reins from Russell T. Davies as Lead Writer and Executive Producer for Series Five. In a release by the BBC Press Office, Moffat had this to say about his new position:
“My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back ‘cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven. I’m glad the BBC has finally seen the light, and it’s a huge honour to be following Russell into the best - and the toughest - job in television.”
Moffat’s credits are impressive - he was writer and creator of the hit series Coupling, he wrote and produced the six-part series Jekyll, and penned the screenplay for the upcoming Tintin film. He’s also the man behind some of the most memorable Doctor Who episodes, including the uber-creepy “Blink”, for which he took home a BAFTA award earlier this month. So where do you think Moffat will take the Doctor next? We’ll have a couple of years to ponder this, as Series Five is set to air in 2010.

I like Moffat. I think he has a great way of developing character interactions, which is important on Doctor Who. “Coupling” was great at that and that kind of character attention is great for “Doctor Who”
