Jason Dohring @ Polaris - Part One

Whether they loved him as Neptune’s brooding bad boy, or as a 400-year-old vampire businessman, the fans were out in full force this past weekend to see Jason Dohring at Polaris 22 in Toronto. And I was lucky enough to attend the Saturday press conference, as well as the Sunday Q & A with the Veronica Mars and Moonlight star, where he shared some of his experiences on both shows. There’s so much info, I have to split it into two parts.

Jason counts his role as Logan Echolls as one of his favourites. He stated, “Veronica (Mars) was amazing because it was the first major role I did … everything I was working on in my whole career, I was able to find a way to pull everything into that character.”

He also recounted the strong sense of camaraderie. “We had such a tight-knit group, we kind of all grew up together. It was our first big breaks, and everyone was determined about the work. So it was an awesome environment for me to be in.”

He did comment that he thought Veronica Mars ended too quickly; he would have liked to see more on the Logan and Veronica relationship, something that hinted on a shared future for them.

As for his future plans, when asked if he’d return to the sci-fi or supernatural genre, he answered, “Absolutely. If there was a role I liked, for sure.” He did share that he is looking for a particular kind of role for his next project. Another series isn’t out of the question, but as he put it, “I don’t want to work just to work any more. I’d rather find something I’m happy about, and I can create and come up with something cool for people to see.”

And speaking of future plans, there’s was something that I was just dying to know. With two of his former cast mates on Heroes (Kristen Bell and Francis Capra), would he consider a role on the hit series? To which he responded, “Sure.” When I asked if he’d prefer to be a hero or a villain, he, much to my delight, emphatically replied, “Villain! Someone who could either has the power to fly, or to burn things.” Hear that, casting folks over at Heroes? Give the boy a call. You’ll make many a-Dohring fans very happy.

Coming soon in my next post, I’ll focus on the Moonlight angle, which will take us into Jason’s experiences on the show, and how he brought his character Josef to life … er, non-life.
