Smallville Season 6 Finale

Category: Smallville

Smallville has rapidly become one of my favourite shows. Yeah, Battlestar Galactica and Heroes have me by the short hairs and I cannot look away, but my heart belongs to Smallville.

Maybe its the Comic Geek in me living on the edge, watching the live action show that the comics only fed into my brain page after finely inked and coloured page. Maybe its the pretty girls.

Either way, tonight was the Season Finale, and of course as much as I was itching to see it, it presented more questions than answers. And there were a LOT of answers.

Lots of spoilers in this post, so I thought I would hide it.

Lana tells Clark about Lionel's Ultimatum
I disliked that they ended up the secret reversal thing so soon. For the first five and ahalf seasons, Clark has kept his secret from Lana because he wanted to protect her. Now his secret is out, Lana is cool with it, and she has to keep a secret of her own while stomping on his heart in order to protect him. I loved that they did this, but disliked that they resolved it so soon afterwards.

Someone Dies
The rumour mill had already confirmed that we were expecting a major player to die in this episode, yet no one really did. They kept throwing it in our faces, but still didn't really kill anyone off yet. Lois gets knifed, Lana explodes, Lionel is buried under rubble, Chloe takes a nap after she cries. Who dies? We don't know yet. I am voting for Lana. I fear it might be Chloe. At least with Lana out of the way the purist side of me can hope they pursue the Lois and Clark romance.

Chloe is a Meteor Freak
Ok this was the most LAME power ever for this character. Even more lame if they make it the end of Chloe. Her tears can bring back the dead? Such a waste. No story there whatsoever. Wonderful character, lots of possibilities, hey look she might have powers? Boo hoo, she cries, it heals someone, she dies. That would be the DUMBEST exit ever.

Martian Manhunter
Martian Manhunter (the black guy with red eyes) is revealed to be a guide or guardian of Jor-El sent to watch over Clark. It's still not said he is Kryptonian (he has to leave Earth's atmosphere to heal - has similar powers to Clark but not invulnerable)

Bizarro
In a strange twist the Bizzaro character is introduced and battles with Clark before flying off and assuming the stony gray look. This is very reminiscent to the dark and light Superman confrontation in Superman 3.

So all of that, combined with Lex going right to the dark side (where he belongs) and all the cliff hangers you can possibly handle, I have one thing left to say.

When does season 7 start?

What was up with the tears of death/life, or whatever that was!?!

Wait... maybe that wasn't her power at all, maybe Lois has a power that sucks tears from those nearby to heal herself... There was a comic book character called matter-eater lad, maybe she is tear-eater girl...

Lana isn't dead. I won't believe she is before i see a body

So, so, so many questions left in that finale. Is Lana dead? Did Lionel kick it after being pimpslapped by Bizarro!Clark? Is Chloe dead or just passed out/in a coma? Is Lois just protecting Chloe's body when the dam is shaking from the Clark/Bizarro!Clark fight or does she know Chloe is alive and is protecting her from debris during the aforementioned tussle? Is Clark alright after his (literal) run-in with Bizarro!Clark? Will Lex be imprisoned for Lana's "death" or weasel his way out? Well done, Smallville writers, you've got me hooked until next season.

Warning: Soapbox moment up ahead.

Ah, Season 6. Or should I call it the season of Lana. I've enjoyed this character for several seasons now but her presence on the show is getting out of hand. This is Smallville, supposedly the tale of a young Clark Kent growing up and becoming the Man Of Steel. It seems as though half the season's episodes was devoted to Lana's storyline and Clarkie just popped into those episodes to defeat some random baddie to save her neck again. Not to mention, repeatedly expressing his "love" for her. This must end, as it is dragging the quality of Smallville down dramaticly.

This brings me to Clark himself, who is supposed to be Superman in the future. Not the way he's been written this year, he's not. Lana has him whipped, following her around like a lost puppy. I can only hope the writers give our young Kryptonian more of a backbone next season, along with some actual character growth. He's not in high school anymore and they should stop making him act as though he is. *puts away his soapbox*

All that said, I'm looking forward to the new season of Smallville. Hopefully we'll get more quality episodes such as Justice and Zod, while cutting back on random Lana episodes in which she's stalked once again. *puts his soapbox away for real this time*

Rodney, John Jones is not a kryptonian, why do you think he's called Martian Manhunter, he's from the planet Mars.

The fight between Clark vs Evil Superman was only thing desent in Superman III to which I think if Richard Donner had'nt been fired he would've used Bizzaro and Brainiac.

I'm glad Smallville's take on Bizzaro was that he's evil, not stupid, but I hope that in the season premiere, that I'm calling the title is going to be called "Bizzaro", when BZ Clark is weakening say "Me am Bizzaro."

It was a fun season finale, but yeah, they packed to much in. There wasn't enough screen-time to go around. I've never liked the 'Smallville-90210' love story, but has been somewhat tolerable this season with Lana getting some 'balls'.

As has been said before, the only major characters they can kill are Chloe or Lionel. It's too bad, because they are the most interesting characters on the show (before they made Chloe a 'meteor freak'). Maybe it is because they are not part of Superman lore that allows them to be so interesting.

The Martian Manhunter working for Jorel? That really cheapens the character. If they ever do anything else post-Smallville with him, I sure hope they forget about that.

The whole truck-in-front-of-the-bomb cliche was insulting. Couldn't they have been a little more creative? As soon as the truck crossed their path, you knew the vehicle was going to explode.

All in all it was fun. Since next year will most likely be the last, I hope they let Superman come out a little from Clark's wimpy shell.

"Since next year will most likely be the last"

Everyone keeps saying that, people said that about Season 4 and then Season 5, I'm certain it's gonna end at Season 8.

And once again Smallville shows it is better than Superman Returns

"And once again Smallville shows it is better than Superman Returns"

That's not really saying much- that's like comparing the special effects of Superman Returns to the special effects of Smallville.

Blaze87,

"Rodney, John Jones is not a kryptonian, why do you think he's called Martian Manhunter, he's from the planet Mars."

I said that already. In the books there was never a connection between J'onn J'onzz (not John Jones) and anything Kryptonian. I said "It's still not said he is Kryptonian" which seems to be the fanbase collective opinion that they "ruined" Manhunter by "making him kryptonian"

I never said he was Kryptonian and gave direct evidence that he clearly was not.

Smallville is going to have seasons 7 & 8 I think but I think it should end next season I am a bit over the way the show is heading with its story lines etc.. the last few seasons for me have been ho hum.

They seem to have freak of the week one after the other until they get to the last ep and they realise we better do something good for finale so pull something out instead of building it up for the last few episodes

anyways thats my .02c on the other hand just watch supernatural finale and I tell you this is one quality show I am loving it more and more cant wait for season 3

"which seems to be the fanbase collective opinion"

Where did you hear that?

"In the books there was never a connection between J'onn J'onzz (not John Jones) and anything Kryptonian."

Actually Rodney there's a connection, in the comics MM saw baby Kal-EL on Krypton. John Jones is his human name when he's working as a detective.
