Australia gets Torchwood

Category: BBC

Australian fan of Doctor Who are gearing up for Series 3, and fans of Captain Jack can watch him in Series 1 of the spin-off show Torchwood.

Australian Channel Ten have set up a new home page for Captain Jack and his crew who man the Torchwood Institute and protect the earth from external threats (kinda like a grown-up version of Men In Black). The series will see it's premiere there June 18 at 9:30. Their new site can be seen here.

The Doctor begins his third series run Down Under with the Christmas Episode: The Runaway Bride on June 28th at 8:35 on ABC before moving to it's regular night Saturday at 7:30 beginning June 30. You can visit their site here, but their info tends to be very spoiler-heavy.

The ads have started on Channel 10. And not one meantion of the Dr Who connection.

Which is daft. Unless you have seen the 1st season of the New Dr Who, you won't know who Captain Jack is. Let alone his sexuality (he IS from the 51st century, I think - humanity has met aliens... and umm danced with them). Or his comments on finding 'the right kind of doctor'.

Although, it is sci fi. So I expect them to drop it into later and later time slots. But being a BBC program, it only has 13 (I think) episodes. So there isn't time for it to be messed up with too much.

But Channel 10 is a commercial station. Which means it will be cut for ads.

All in all, I am not looking forward to the free to air transmission. I am looking forwrd to the DVD set.

Keep on TARDISing...
