Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Code

Category: BBC

"There's something rotten in the state of... England?"
In Martha's first full-fledged adventure with The Doctor, they travel back to 1599 and bump into The Bard himself! There's witches at work, bodies piling up, a hard-working playwright, an unheard of Shakespeare play (Love's Labours Won), hidden codes, The Globe Theater and our time-traveling duo.

This is the first 'fun' episode of Series 3 and I totally got into the spirit of it, The Doctor is stealing all of Bill's best lines or giving them to him, and there are a couple of brilliant pop rculture eferences including Back To The Future and Harry Potter ("EXPELIRAMAS!!!). And on a seriously geeky note, I like to see what color his cons are this week. I believe this week they were white :) It's a wonderfully lush episode, production-wise, and it shows us, and Martha what to expect from this third series, while establishing that Martha Jones is going to be able to hold her own with The Doctor!

While not my fave oif the series (that would be Blink and Human Nature) The Shakespeare Code is up there as a series highlight just to see The Doctor and Shakespeare using The Bard's own dialogue.

Next week The Doctor returns to New New Earth, and gets stuck in traffic!

Doctor Who Series 3 airs Monday nights on the CBC
