Grey's Anatomy Season Finale

Category: Grey's Anatomy

After a disappointing season of Grey’s Anatomy, it is not surprising with the season finale the show goes out on a whimper.

As disappointing as the finale was, I still feel there is hope for next season. They introduced new interns, which might bring a new dynamic to the show. If George starts the program again, he’ll have to be with them. I think having Meredith’s sister be a new intern to be incredibly interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing her and Meredith interact.

Warning spoilers are contained below:

Is anyone surprised that Burke and Cristina’s wedding didn’t go off? I for one am not upset. Their relationship from the beginning has been stale and lacking chemistry. It is easy to see why Cristina wants to be with Burke because she aspires to be him and greatly admires him, but it is hard to see why Burke is with Cristina. It bothered me the whole time how Burke tried so hard to change her and then in the end realized he shouldn’t be doing that and called off the wedding. With all the behind the scenes drama, it is unclear whether or not they will renew Washington’s contract and Burke will be returning.

There are Derek and Meredith problems yet again. I loved their relationship at the beginning of the season, once they finally got together, but as the season has gone on, I could care less whether or not they stayed together. Meredith continues to be hit while she is down, losing her mother, surrogate mother, relationship with her father and dying herself only to come back. It isn’t any wonder that she can’t have a normal relationship with Derek. He wants her to stop leaving him but she didn’t tell him that she wouldn’t only to rush to help Cristina with her wedding. They’ll do the dance of breaking up and reuniting all next season. I only hope it will be more entertaining than it is now.

Alex and Ava’s relationship was one of the few breathes of fresh air to the finale. The connection between them was fostered over the second half of the season and I loved the growth of Alex’s character. When Ava’s husband returned to reclaim her, Alex made the worst mistake ever stepping aside. My heart was breaking when Ava begged Alex to give her a reason to stay in Seattle and he told her there wasn’t one. He realized later that he didn’t want her to go only to come back and find her gone, a tremendous step on his part.

We find out that George failed his exam. He is faced with many choices. Stay and repeat his first year or quit, stay with Callie and have a baby, or leave Callie to be with Izzie who finally declared her love for him. It’s pretty obvious that he won’t leave the program. But his choice between the two ladies is more out in the open. We really won’t find out who he chooses until later. I really like the George and Izzie relationship and always thought since season 1 that they should be together.

The chief makes his pick for a replacement and it’s Derek. Only Derek refuses to take the job saying that Richard should remain chief. Richard probably would have done so previously but he was recently united with his wife Adele who was in the hospital after a car accident. Richard finds her in the hospital bleeding because of her pregnancy and stays by her during her stay even when he thinks she has another man’s baby. After Adele has to go into emergency surgery, she loses the baby and admits it was Richard’s and that she misjudged him and that he was a better man than she thought.

Callie is awarded chief resident. And I for one was incredibly angry for this decision. I love Bailey and she has worked hard to get that spot. We’ll have to wait until next season to see the Chief’s reasoning.

I always thought that the Burk and Christina thing was way out of left field, and it annoyed me. I agree that Alex and Ava were really good together, I hope the writers pursue it next season, and I too hope that they find some way to make the whole Meredith/ McDreamy thing more interesting. This season, it was just forced drama, especially after she drowned. I just kept wishing they would pretend it didn't happen.
