Homestar Runner Denies Adult Swim

Category: Adult Swim

According to Wired.com nutty cartoon website Homestar Runner was in brief talks with Comedy Central and Cartoon Network, but have backed away from both cable networks in favor of just staying on the web.

"There was a brief flirtation with Comedy Central and Adult Swim," Matt said. "The whole TV thing seemed creepy. They wanted to plug it into their model -- that all comedy was gag-related, not character-driven. They left the door open, but we liked what we were doing and kept doing it online."
I don't blame them. Even though both channels may seem to be liberal, I can see where the website's creators would rather keep their projects under their own eyes, without any possible tampering from network execs. Although, from a channel that cranks out programs where Harvey Birdman can have a short love affair with Boo Boo, how much could it have possibly changed?

I've always had mixed feelings about Homestarrunner going to television for the exact reasons that Chapman mentions, but it's a shame that they aren't exposed to more people. I wonder what it would take for them to get a deal like Trey Parker and Matt Stone have? The network seems to be mostly hand-off, creatively, with South Park...except for the occasional controversy.

Strong Bad on Adult Swim would be great. I'm sure they could make it work.
