I had thought they already addressed this when they brought in the other Kryptonian girl who the fanbase thought was Supergirl (Kara) but it seems we were wrong.
Zap2it.com reports:"One of the joys of creating 'Smallville' has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters," says executive producer Al Gough. "Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season."
The latest season will premiere with the arrival of Kara, Clark's (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin born on Krypton. As the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother, Kara also has superpowers, including one that Clark has yet to develop: the ability to fly. On the more mundane side, Kara butts heads with Clark, is sweet on Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) and draws Lex's (Michael Rosenbaum) attention. Its long ago noticed that they like to reinvent the characters instead of just carbon copying the storylines from the page. But this is one character that they appear to be hitting right on. I wonder if she will have a costume of sorts, and thereby influencing Clark to mask his identity. (The glasses were cool but ditched a LONG time ago).
That and she can fly. Last season we were told that we would see Clark fly. They tease us with him accidentally flying in earlier seasons (floating over his bed, flying through the tornado) and he did fly as his darker alterego Kal. But Clark himself has so far been carrying this mental block that wont let him fly. So they teased us that "this season he will fly" and it wasn't really Clark who did it.
Perhaps Kara will give him lessons.

I thought the banter between Lois and Clark in seasons 4 and 5 was a great addition to the show, the Kara and Kal-El banter might be really funny.

I know that they keep telling us that 'Clark' wont fly, but I really wish they'd let him. It seems silly that everyone else from Krypton or Phantom Zone can fly, and Evil-Clark can fly, but Clark doesn't.

Best news I've heard in awhile about Smallville. Now, who does everything think should play her?

Man... I guess I'm in the minority here, cause I don't like this news at all. This is the last season... it's not time for introducing major new characters... it's time for finalizing old ones and tying up all the various story lines from the previous 6 seasons.
And for fuck's sake... they keep saying Clark is the "LAST" kryptonian... and yet it feels like every other week they introduce ANOTHER one. It's like The Highlander all over again:
"There can be only one... until the next one".

Its already been stated that they only intend on 8 seasons, so we can hopefully count on 2 more.
That doesnt mean there will not be a spinoff show called Metropolis or just Superman that continues on Clark's journey beyond his "Smallville" days.
