Chef Ramsay Takes Kitchen Nightmares to the US

Category: Reality

Chef Gordon Ramsay is a known and popular commodity in the UK with world class restaurants, many books and several TV shows and documentaries.
Here in the States, Ramsay’s appeal took a little longer to catch on. It is hard to deny that the summer of 2007 has been very good to Ramsay with the third season of his U.S. version of Hell’s Kitchen scoring extremely well in the ratings for FOX, his UK shows getting heavy rotation on BBC America, Amazon.com reporting increased sales of his books on this side of the pond and now yet another U.S. incarnation of one of his popular UK shows, Kitchen Nightmares.

As much as I love Hell’s Kitchen, I am even more excited to see a U.S. version of Kitchen Nightmares. Nightmares shows Ramsay spending a week in troubled restaurants as he tries to help them turn their operation around. Ego comes into play here as restaurateurs feel the need to reject anything Ramsay tries to change, and sparks fly! Kitchen Nightmares makes for great reality television and everything is summed up in one episode because next week we move on to another restaurant in trouble.

In order for a show like Kitchen Nightmares to work, you totally have to buy into Gordon Ramsay and his expertise. You have to believe that his word is final and that he knows exactly what he’s talking about. Before this past summer’s Ramsay-fest, I don’t think Kitchen Nightmares would have played that well here in the States. Now, we are ready to see Ramsay tell ‘em how to do it.

Kitchen Nightmares debuts on FOX Wednesday, September 19. Until then, you can catch the UK’s Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares on BBC America.
