Is NBC Cheaply Recycling an Old Show?

Category: Journeyman

I make it a habit to spend at least 3 hours a day on IMDb. I decided to head over to the JourneyMan message board to see if there was any juicy info being leaked as there often is. But instead, half of the posts said “Rip-Off of Quantum Leap”.

Now, Quantum Leap(I’m sure most of you remember it) was a sci-fi/drama/comedy/cheesefest show from the late 80s and early 90s. It was a show I’d catch in re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel(It originally ran on NBC). It’s about a guy who, after an experiment goes wrong, has his mind and body transplanted into somebody in the past in order to “right wrongs”. It DOES sound an awful lot like JourneyMan, and the fact that they both are NBC shows doesn’t really help.

However, there are major differences. Quantum Leap focused on the science fiction quite a bit. There were holograms, paradoxes, general sci-fi stuff. I have a feeling that JourneyMan will be more similar to “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. It looks to be more of a fantasy/romance than a sci-fi. And there’s the fact that JourneyMan won’t be “jumping”, mind and body, into people. Sure, it’s familiar territory, but time travel is a very common plot device. And even if it is almost a remake, what’s wrong with that? They’re re-doing Bionic Woman aren’t they? And isn’t Heroes just a Soap-afied X-Men? To me, the differences are obvious. But, do YOU think that the similarities are too eerie? Is NBC being cheap?
