All of the music industry showed up in force at the fresh new take on the previously failing MTV Music Awards. The format is changed (high roller casino, multiple venues within hosted by stars, and focusing on performance instead of awards) and the gem in the crown of the publicity push was Britney Spears imminent "comeback" performance. Well let's start there.
Let's start with the good stuff, because it was there. The song is super catchy and fits Britney's style perfectly. She's trying to be a little edgier, and the song is destined to be repeated at dance clubs everywhere. Britney LOOKED GOOD. Don't get me wrong, but Britney 6 months ago was 60lbs heavier having just delivered her second baby. No one faults her for that. But with all the paparrazi pictures showing Brit's fumbled fashion sense and destructive party habits, I was surprised to see her as slinky as she was. Still not as "fit" as she once was, but good on her.
But the bad part was how bland she peformed the song. I use "performed" loosely as she seemed to forget how to lip synch, and didn't really dance much at all. The performance itself was lacking. This could really hurt Brit as this seems to be the ONLY thing people are talking about. But is there "no such thing as bad publicity" or have we seen the end of the pop princess.

Add that with the very edgy Sarah Silverman taking shots at everyone in her dry bitter style. Kid Rock and Tommy Lee coming to blows. And Justin Timberlake pleading MTV to actually show more music videos in their mix.
But nothing compares to the further drama llama breeding of Kanye West. Yahoo quotes West's tantrum when he was shut out on all 5 awards he was nominated for:"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West said, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... number one record, man."
West said he never will return to MTV.I am getting REALLY tired of West's reverse racism. If something doesn't go his way then its because he is black. Funny that he has the "number one album" and that happened even though he is black. Maybe it is because they don't like your whiny "poor me" behaviour. Get over it West! He is threatening never to return to MTV Awards, and I am sure the organizers have no problem with that. He throws disruptive fits like a child every time someone doesn't leap up his ass.
Do you think this effort to bring the ratings back to the MTV Movie Awards worked? Or did it just drop the axe on the event?

It will probably end up being a night that Brit will look back on with regret. I agree that her performance was the problem. She just looked lost and not the consummate performer we have come to know. She probably knew how much was riding on that evening and the pressure got to her. Stay tuned, she may yet surprise us. As for her body, yeah, she's got a few more pounds on her...and it looks good! Don't change a thing Britney.
