NBC's Bionic Woman loses another leg

Category: Bionic Woman

TV vet Glen Morgan, best known for producing some of the better seasons of The X-Files, has become the latest castaway in a string of recent shake-ups for NBC's Bionic Woman. According to Variety, Morgan, who had been co-running the show alongside Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick, left the show early last week with the familiar refrain of "creative differences" being cited as reason for his departure.

Long considered to be one of the highlights of the upcoming fall schedule, Bionic Woman consistently ranks as one of the most anticipated new shows, but this news, coming so soon after similar changes to the cast and characters, makes me question the severity of those "creative differences." And indeed, it seems there are even more troubling rumors circling the show.

Variety reports:

There had been word around town that "Bionic" was also shutting down production, but an NBC rep said that isn't the case. However, industry insiders believe it's possible the show....might take a break for a while in order to give the writers a chance to focus on refining the show's directions
In another Variety story posted yesterday, Bionic Woman will find that new direction with the help of Jason Katims, who should be familiar to genre fans as the creator and executive producer of the UPN show "Roswell." This means Katims will be pulling double duty for NBC, as he plans to continue his primary role as showrunner of the network's critical favorite "Friday Night Lights" while also working with Eick in an as yet undefined role on Bionic Woman.

Bionic Woman has been charged with a standard 13 episode order by the network and is now said to be in production on it's fifth, which leaves Katims plenty of room to make his presence felt. Even so, this show feels like it's had a tall order of change in a short amount of time and my hope is these changes fall in the category of final polish and not that of panicked, eleventh hour tinkering.
