Dr Who: The Movie?

Category: BBC

It seems the BBC
is seeding ideas of a possible Doctor Who feature film
that would see Billie Piper's Rose re-uniting with the current Doctor, David Tennant, on the big screen.

The BBC controller of fiction (that just sounds like a propaganda job for the government - but that's just me) Jane Tranter had this to say, "I would not rule out a film version of Doctor Who, no."

The Doctor has been seen on the big screen twice before as portrayed by Peter Cushing, though neither of these films are considered to be BBC Who Canon. This film, if it has Tennant as the Doctor, and the BBC's support would definitely be!

While I like the idea of a Doctor Who movie, I tend to think that it would have to be a really, really, really, really, really AWESOME story to warrant doing it as a feature film. With the caliber of the stories, writing, and effects we've seen on the show to date, a film, for any reason at all, would need to be something very special. I mean we've seen the Daleks, the Cybermen, there's rumors of Davros returning to the series this year, the Master has appeared...

A Doctor Who movie would have to be very big, and very special....

What do you think?

I think it's high time for a Dr. Who movie. The only thing that would make it better would be the addition of Christopher Eccleston in a revival of the old "two doctors" stories.

You know, if they were ever to bring Rose back into the picture, since the Doctor pretty much said that it was impossible to cross the barrier between dimensions, as he was using the energy of a dying star to tell her it was impossible, a movie would probably be the best way to do it. Even if it were just for the duration of a movie.

Besides, as we have seen in the Doctor Who universe there is almost nothing that is impossible, only extremely difficult. Just look at Jack, he's a fact on the timeline, something that shouldn't exist yet Rose, with the power of the Time Vortex, made it happen.

Toss in Eccleston, for a two Doctors special like Rob suggested, and then let's, say, use Patrick Stewart as a villain and we'll have one bang-up movie on our hands.

Now then... how to go about bribing the powers that be to do such a thing?

That would be a bang-up idea lads! Now if say, Steven Moffat, my fave script writer for the series so far could come up with a script that had all of the above in it. I think something that good would HAVE to be on the big screen, and then of course a 2-disc collector's edition DVD!

I'd like to see a Who movie. With the success of the recent revival on DVD and cable here in the states, I would think now is as good a time as any. It'd be a nice swan song for Tennant's tenth doc to boot and with either Eccleston or Tennant, or both possibly, they'd have the most cinematic Doctors on hand...as well as a weird love triangle with Billie Piper's Rose that couldn't technically be called a triangle, since the two men are really the same. Fingers crossed something gets the greenlight.

:O Given how much my Fiance loves this show I'm amazed this is the first I've heard of this news! Yes please, bring Rose back. If it goes ahead this is one I KNOW we'll be owning (in the Special Limited Release Double DVD with Numerous Extras Edition, no doubt).
