Another day, another lawsuit.
IGN reports:FOX's The Family Guy is being sued for a parody of the classic song "When You Wish Upon a Star." According toe E! Online, the lawsuit, brought by Bourne Co., the owner of the rights to the Oscar winning song, alleges that the parody used by the Seth McFarlane-run series damages the song's status as a "cultural treasure epitomizing the wonders of childhood."
Chances are, it will be thrown out. Rcently, Carol Burnett sued the show, but the lawsuit was thrown out due to it being a parody. It seems like, nowadays, everything you do, especially if its on film or tv, you can sued for. Crazy world. I never seem to remember The Simpsons getting sued for their "Be Our Guest" parody "See My Vest" or Adam Sandler for his Opraman rendition of Pearl Jam's "Evenflow."
I'm not saying that the Bourne Co. doesn't have a case, or doesn't have the right to sue somebody for it. What I am saying is that after all this "it's our tune, we can do what we want with it, they don't have a right to use or parody it" bickering, everyone knows it's all about the money.
