There is already a poll on E! online to say if you want to "Save or Sink" the show Chuck, which only has had one episode. So far the results are pretty firmly in the "save it" category.
According to the Washington Post: "To steal from the title of a great old Chuck Jones cartoon, this isn't just "Chuck" but "Chuck Amok," and if the premise and execution remind you of teen-aimed movies with similar setups and characters, at least it should remind you of the good ones, not the lame-o's. "Chuck" cheerfully brightens up NBC's Monday night of video fantastique and does it in a pretty magnifique way."
After watching the pilot episode, I have to say that I agree. On the one hand, I'm wary because it's a premise that could just as easily become terrible or become a new fan favorite. I don't forsee it ever becoming a mainstream staple the way of Heroes or Battlestar Galactica, it is a little too focused on the "nerd" idea.
Reactions about the acting are mixed, and honestly I'm also mixed. I think that part of that is due to it being the pilot, and you have to give people a little time to settle in and become the characters you know and love. Mulder and Scully weren't in top form in the first episode of X-Files either. I'm not ready to count these kids out, they seem to be on the right track. One thing I will say though is that Morgan, Chuck's best friend, reminds me a little too much of Justin Long for some reason.
I think it is summed up best in the review from Entertainment Weekly: "Chuck is packed with car chases, explosions, and even some nifty knife work with sporks. All the action is balanced by the loose-limbed Levi, who has a grin that makes you want to give him all your pudding, immediately. And while there are a few too many ''awkward-guy moments,'' there are enough genuinely sweet ones to balance them out, especially between Chuck and his cooler, protective older sister, Ellie (What About Brian's Sarah Lancaster). Ellie, it must be mentioned, has a doctor/skydiver/rock-climber boyfriend (Ryan McPartlin) whom Chuck has dubbed Captain Awesome. That nickname alone makes the series worth watching."
With last night's episode on top of these reviews, are you watching?
