I’m going to step out of the world of the broadcast television show to pose for your consideration …broadcast television. Specifically, how do you receive your television broadcasts in this day and age?

After Hurricane Katrina roared through my house two years ago, my wife and I decided that we would replace all of our televisions with High Definition sets. Might as well, since we were going to have to replace them in the next few years anyway. Since we were already with DirecTV, we were up and running quickly while others were using their rabbit ears for the first time in decades. Cable service was a memory and took months to re-establish, so over the air or satellite were the only options.

Eventually, I decided to check out the capabilities of our new HD sets and tried out DirecTVs HD service. The selection was slim but the picture was impressive. When I heard that our local stations in New Orleans were activating the HD transmitters, I pulled out a small antennae and hooked it up.

Wow.

I have read many stories about DirecTV’s HD being more of a HD-“lite”, but I did not fully understand just how good HD could be until I saw HD…by rabbit ears! Since then, I have installed a huge gaudy old style “big ass” antennae, the like of which have not been seen since the 1970s, and my HD television viewing experience is nothing short of spectacular. Granted, I am fortunate enough to live in an area that is blessed with a lot of HD transmissions filling the air. I know that most are not as lucky. But even if you have only one local station broadcasting in HD, you owe it to yourself to invest 10 bucks at your local Wal-Mart or Radio Shack and see what is truly possible on that shiny new HD set in your Living Room.

Browsing this subject on the web, I see that my experience is not unique. So, I’m asking readers here, are you getting your television fix in HD and what has your experience been?
