The ABC website has 3 blogs that give TV viewers a bit more insight into the show. The one that really helps explain the show is Grey Matter, in which the writers on the show reflect on the week’s episode and what it meant for the character and future of the show.
The latest blog has Shonda Rhimes discussing the finale as well as season 3 and she addresses many of fans concerns. She first explains why this season was so dark and down on the characters.
Shonda writes
It wasn’t as light as Season Two and for good reason – our characters were in a darker place. I needed to put Meredith’s mother to rest, Izzie’s grief to rest, and the race for Chief to rest. George needed to grow up on a monumental level and then come full circle to where he was when we first met him in the pilot. Meredith had to finally try to face the fact that she’s damaged when it comes to relationships. I wanted to put Bailey on the path of questioning her standing as The Chosen One. Both Burke and Derek needed to hit a relationship wall, each in their own ways.
I did my level best to burn it all down this season, to burn it to the ground so that we can have a place to build from next season. Burning it down was hard. But next season…oh, next season is all about the fun and the pain and the new beginnings. Because our interns are going to become residents. Because everyone is single again — well, there is the little matter of Izzie and George and Callie…but still…the future is wide open, people.
Her blog did a great job explaining the why of the season. I still don’t agree that the writers had to be so hard on the characters, constantly hitting them with more and more pain. But at least she had a valid reason for it and wanted to have them experience more growth. No matter how you feel about season 3, there is hope for the future. It looks like it isn’t going to be “all dark and twisty” and that has me excited because I have some good things to be looking forward to.
Here’s to a hopeful “bright and shiny” season 4!

Fresh Faces on Grey’s Anatomy
With the turnover of a few cast members (Isaiah Washington and Kate Walsh), it looks like we’ll be seeing some new characters on Grey’s Anatomy next season.
AOL says:
Executives tied to the show say the fourth-season plan is to add several cast members, including at least one fresh-faced new intern: Meredith Grey’s half-sister Lexi (Chyler Leigh) will become a frequent presence with a multi-episode story arc. They are also seeking a new recurring male character to compete with Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. McDreamy.
I’m very excited to be hearing this. I was hoping to see some new interns and hopefully they will bring a new dynamic to the show and introduce more characters for us to love. I’m glad to see that Lexi will be on for a while because I want to see that storyline developed. I am not so sure how I like to see a rival for McDreamy to vie for Meredith’s affections. Their relationship is screwed up enough without adding another guy into the mix, but new blood could bring some life to the show.

After being fired last week, Isaiah Washington seems to not want the controversy to die. In an exclusive interview to Ausiello at the TV Guide, Washington’s spokesperson, Howard Bragman, reveals that Washington is considering legal action.
Bragman says in the interview at TV Guide
“If they wanted to fire him,” Bragman asks, “Why didn’t they fire him when [the incident] happened? Why did they say, ‘Here’s what you need to do if you want to come back… ‘ and then, when he did everything that was asked of him, he still gets fired. Why do you treat somebody like that?”
“If you made a mistake, you acknowledged the mistake, you went into counseling, you met with the groups, you did the PSA, you did everything that was asked of you, and then they still kick you in the gut? How would you feel?â€
Washington and his publicist have a point. ABC made him do all these things to help his image and then goes on to fire him. It’s pretty obvious that they kept him around because of the storyline and it would’ve been awkward to fire him midseason. ABC did act fairly poorly in this regard, but let’s not forget this is coming from a man who grabbed a fellow castmember, Patrick Dempsey by the throat. Washington needs to let the controversy die or he will never find any more work in Hollywood.
Do you think that ABC was wrong in leading Washington on or that they should have let him go midseason? Who’s side are you on?

T.R. Knight fans can rest easy. Although it was left up in the open whether or not George would be returning on Grey’s Anatomy because he failed the intern exam, it looks like he will be coming back next season.
Entertainment weekly says:
According to one insider close to the negotiation, Knight has agreed to a new contract that will boost his per-episode salary to roughly $125,000 and give him a small piece of the show profits (pay hikes and profit points were also granted to many of Knight’s co-stars, including Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Sandra Oh).
I have to say that is good news. I love George and wanted him to return. I am also pleased to see him getting a pay hike. Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Sandra Oh don’t make the show. All the actors should be getting raises. What is disappointing is that Katherine Heigl never got the pay raise that she was hoping for next season. Where’s her love?

After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that Isaiah Washington will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy.
People writes:
After a controversial season, Isaiah Washington will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy, his rep and ABC Television Studio have confirmed.
Howard Bragman, Washington’s publicist, says Washington’s option was not renewed, and released this statement from the actor: “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.”
In my opinion, Washington is getting what he deserves. He caused drama on the set and his terrible behavior towards fellow cast member, T.R. Knight, shouldn’t be rewarded by having him on the show. Even in the end, Washington couldn’t show any amount of decency and releases a statement like that. I’m glad that the producers finally stood up to him.
As for Burke’s character not being on the show, I am not that upset. I never really connected with him. I liked the character but didn’t love him and I especially didn’t feel any devotion to the Cristina/ Burke romance. But I am curious as to what the actor’s departure is going to do to the show. Creator Shonda Rhimes has said that she has outlined the entire show and knows where it is going. Is the writing of the show going to falter more?
What do you think? Should Washington have been let go? Do you think the show is going to be hurt because of it?

After a disappointing season of Grey’s Anatomy, it is not surprising with the season finale the show goes out on a whimper.
As disappointing as the finale was, I still feel there is hope for next season. They introduced new interns, which might bring a new dynamic to the show. If George starts the program again, he’ll have to be with them. I think having Meredith’s sister be a new intern to be incredibly interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing her and Meredith interact.
